    TT Submains time delayed

At the source I have a 3 phase TT incomer supplying a 3 phase board. There's 3 sub mains from that board to the pool house, tennis court and garden room. My plan is to upgrade the 3 phase board in the barn using a 4 pole 100ma time delayed RCD as the main switch to cover the 2 SWA sub mains and...

    TT Submains time delayed

Hello, I've been asked to install a supply for a TP air source heat pump to heat a swimming pool. The pool room CU is feed from a barn with a TP supply and luckily the SWA feeding the pool room CU is a 4 core. The barn is going to be converted in the near future into 2 holiday lets so I'm...

    Low IR reading

Thanks for the help PC, I went back today and found it. The feed comes out the house into a junction box, under the path in SWA and into another junction box. When I looked in them last week everything looked good and earthed with a banjo at one end and the IR was high on that section. I...

    Low IR reading

Hey people, I did some testing for a sporadic RCD trip this week. The customer did some playing about and narrowed it down to the garage. Tested the garage circuits and all were good. Tested the feed and found with the CPC still in the bar I got 0.076 meg but when I pulled it out the fault...

    DNO earth

Hey people, My friend just bought a flat which has had a solar PV install in the last couple of years and he wanted me to have a quick look (not that I touch PV) Anyway, I found this: It looks like the guys have rammed the earth up the sleeve on the incomer? I can't see why they wouldn't...

    RCD test results

I had all loads disconnected and tested at the RCD's. I've just tested my RCD's and they test as expected. I've fitted quite a bit of BG and never had an issue before. I'll have to go pull one out next week and bring it home, or I can try chucking in my van one in quick and see if that tests...

    RCD test results

I did a board change this week and fitted a BG dual RCD. Carried out all my testing before hand and everything checked out ok. Fitted the board and did my post live tests and both RCD's trip at 4.8ms at x 5 and 8ma on the ramp test. So I though maybe a dickie batch of RCD's, swapped them...

    250v IR

Hey guys, My NIC assessor told me I can apply 643.3.2 (the part near the bottom about SPD's or "other" equipment) to all circuits. It doesn't quite feel right but would save a lot of time not having to re-arrange rooms. Any opinions?

    SPD Installation

Cheers guys, I've managed to find several images of pre installed SPD's and the MCB comes off the main switch then wired over to the SPD. I think I'll just recommend that it should be relocated. Many Thanks.

    SPD Installation

Hey guys, Came across a retro fit SPD today on a BG board. It was a dual split board and the MCB for the SPD was hanging off the end. I've not retro fitted an SPD but I would of though the MCB should be off the main switch at the head of the install? The blue book just says at the origin. I...

    Lake Areation Pumps

Well I've been and had another walk and talk with them today and decided to run each one on a dedicated circuit. Cheers for the inputs everyone :)

    Lake Areation Pumps

The circuit I've already designed takes into account the total running load and I've over sized it to be on the safe so would account for an inrush if the pumps are not turned on in sequence.

    Lake Areation Pumps

The pumps I've been asked to look into are called force 7. They are installed in the lake on a floating system then depth adjustable. The pumps have they're own controller with RCD, overload protection and timer so I have been informed but I can't think of a way to ensure there is only one...

    Lake Areation Pumps

Each one is going to have a rotary isolator on the bank. They don't need to run all the time so he will just walk around on turn them on one by one when needed so can start from the furthest end. There's an old board in the barn just running a couple of circuits so planning on upgrading that...

    Lake Areation Pumps

Hi guys and gals, I've been asked to install 5 aeration pumps on a large lake. The pumps are 1kw each. The first pump is 150 meters from the property and the furthest 350 meters. Can I run these as a radial dropping the SWA CSA as I go, I calc'd the initial run would be in 25 for the first...
