Is a 35mm cable big enough for a 3-phase domestic installation with...

To follow up on this, they installed their normal cable knowing the power I was getting and it was all fine. I was fretting over nothing. Thanks to those who replied.

The 'they' is the DNO, National Grid who are doing the install. The cable in the street coming to my property is 95mm according to the DNO engineer. That's about as much as I know. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the replies. It’s quite difficult (for me) to accurately calculate what’s needed when I don’t know the exact specification of the solar panels and battery plus heat pump of unknown size at some point in the next 5 years. The only thing I know I’m getting is one 22kW Zappi right away...

Is a 35mm cable big enough for a 3-phase domestic installation with...

No, but while I’m talking to National Grid, I want to make sure they put in a big enough cable. I started by ordering three-phase and paying 4 1/2 grand to put it in. But then I realised that being looped, I could get delooped for free and when they put in a new connection, if the customer asks...

Is that 100A per phase? Was told that can’t have more than 80A per phase on a normal meter box on the front of the house anyway. It’s travelling about 15 metres under the drive and lawn up to the new meter box. Not near anything hot.

...2 x 22kW EV chargers, 10kW of solar panels + 15 kW batteries and a heat pump for a 4 bed house and a 1 bed detached garage office? Got 3 phase being put in and they're planning on putting in a 35mm cable. Just checking with you experts whether this will be fat enough. Many thanks

UK Do I need three phase or not? Your advice appreciated.

If those houses have solar, then maybe it won't be so bad, and my plan is to be as 'off grid' as possible with mine, but that doesn't mean that I won't want to charge everything up at some point.

UK Do I need three phase or not? Your advice appreciated.

Owned an EV since 2017, but I'm pretty much clueless in electrical stuff (unlike my Dad who served his apprenticeship with the MEB, but is no longer with us), but I'm guessing more households with two cars will be switching to EVs, most with batteries which are 50kw+, so expect to want to charge...

😁 imagine trying to tow a caravan on one of these!

UK Do I need three phase or not? Your advice appreciated.

Unlooping 100% happens for free as the DNO has an obligation to connect each residence with it's own supply. I am purchasing the house and have set money aside for this. I've done solar in 2015 plus zappi and eddi when they first came out in the UK (Lee Sutton visited the site for a video), so...

    What’s the best case scenario?

7kW EV charger charging at 2.5kW?

Could this be the normal charging curve of the vehicle? EVs ramp down the charge rate as the battery gets nearer full. What state of charge was the vehicle at when it ramped down? 70%+? This would be expected. It’s also why EVs should only charge to 80% on public rapid chargers when other...

UK Do I need three phase or not? Your advice appreciated.

Is it possible that, when the company installing the system (12kw solar, 20kw batteries, 2 Zappis and an Eddi) apply to the DNO, that the DNO will look at the system, and agree that we need delooping and 3-phase and decide to do both FOC? Or at least discounted since they are digging up the...

UK Do I need three phase or not? Your advice appreciated.

I called my DNO to discuss it (that's how I know the property is looped) and he said that it would cost about £4k to upgrade to 3 phase. I'm trying to avoid that expense.

Hello folks. I am about to complete on a (detached) house purchase and I want to ask your advice whether to have three phase connected to the house and possibly whether I can have it connected for free. I plan to have two Zappy EV chargers installed with them both charging at the same time...
