Mystery solved. An extension cable plugged into a garden shed socket leading out to the garden to feed a water pump in a pond. The extension cable (socket end) wrapped up in a poly bag, left outside in Scotland. Sometimes dry, mostly wet. Never trust customer's explanantion of what is going on...
I'm not even sure if I can properly explain this one. When the shower is switched on the RCD (1) on the other side of the board trips. The shower continues to work fine and when they come out they reset the RCD until the next person needs a shower.
When the hoover is switched on and plugged...
Tell me about it.
Not so much trying to run over me but he seemed so sure and I was thinking have I missed something with this 3mm rule, as things alter all the time, more in building regs and I don't know everything all the time, which is why I ask. To be fair he was doing the wood...
It was the 3mm that got me. It is plaster board on a wooden frame and he was placing dwangs across the studs for me to fix my boxes onto. To me there is a good practice rule rather than a precision rule
Just had a discussion with a builder where he told me that metal back boxes have to be fixed at a certain depth. The front edge of the box should be about 3mm depth from the front surface of plasterboard (12mm). I am unaware of any depth requirements regarding plasterboard and metal back boxes...
I wonder if any of you can come up with a solution to this issue.
I have stair lighting which is controlled by 2x two way switches and 5x intermediate switches. Each switch turns on and off the entire lighting in the stair. My customer wants to be able to limit the time the lights are left on...
Unfortunately the ELCB is the main switch on the DB so if I branched off from the supply side of DB, the only protection is a 100A electricity suppliers fuse.
I had a customer (doctors) whose DB has an ELCB main switch which tripped over night causeing a fridge which is plugged into the ring main to be off and ruined various vaccines. Is there any way to have the fridge isolated from the ring main and ELCB other than install a garage unit RCD for the...
I had a simialr argument with someone regarding fire rating and LED downlights. Basically the argument centred on a domestic dwelling and that if there was no habitable dwelling above, ie only a loft space that recessed downlights did not require to be fire rated. My take is if you cut a hole in...
I am looking for an LED driver XY-50W 10S5P.
Input - AC 240v
Output - DC 26-36v
There are plenty online from China, but does anyone know a UK supplier for the item above or equivalent? All the drivers here seem to be 12v
I didn't expect anything. The socket tester was in one side of the double socket and I inserted the plug into the other. As the earth prong made contact the tester changed. This I found interesting and don't know why it would alter the live/neutral reverse light.
I should also say the MCB had...
Live and Neutral reversed. However the cooker circuit was an immersion heater circuit originally 2.5mm T+E. The board was fine, but the supply to the cooker was in red and black cable from the board, however in the cooker switch it was brown and blue. So a connection of sorts was made when new...
Thanks for all the helpful replies. I did open both and nothing was wrong. I am thinking there may another connection between the cooker socket and DB with possibly a Neutral and Earth reverse.
A cooker switch with single socket indicated a reverse polarity. It was connected to a double socket into which was plugged a gas hob and gas oven. Double socket also showed reverse polarity. However when the earth prong on the plug was inserted into the socket the LED display on the plug in...
I have one and I like it, but there are a lot of function buttons and a bit of reading and getting used to it. Like everything, unless it is pure ****, it just takes practice.
For a cannibas farm. They wired the ring main directly to the live supply coming from the common stairwell bypassing the meter. They must have wired it live as well, as there was no access to the incoming fuse. Into a connector block with the 100A meter tails.
