We need to empty our heating oil tank in order to re-level the base as the ground has slumped. The heating's off now anyway so it just leaves HW to deal with. Have inherited the manually switched immersion circuit on a FSU downstairs (tank is up in the loft) that so far has never been used and I've had no reason to touch in the two years since we moved in, which as/when the oil eventually runs dry I'll need to put into service for as long as it takes to mess about with groundworks.

So I need to rig up a temp timing system for it - the rest of the system is on Nest so I do have a volt-free timer circuit I can kidnap from the base unit. Was wondering if someone like Quinetic make a 3kw rated remote switch that I can swap out the FSU for? I could put a contactor along with a receiver local to the tank, I guess, and just keep the FSU live but seems like I'm adding more than is needed. Anyone have any suggestions?

If i could, i would take the outgoing cable from the fsu to the boiler location, and then back to the heater, install a contactor that is energised by the nest unit in the same way as the boiler is. that way it is simple to activate electric heating of the water any time you need it.
