I am a 71-year-old male retired Electrical Engineer living in Surrey, England.
I served an apprenticeship with the London Electricity Board and worked for them and the South Eastern Electricity Board for thirty years. I then went on to work for Magnox Electric [ Nuclear Power Stations ] and for three years for National Grid in their Control Centre at Wokingham.
I studied on day release at Wandsworth Technical College, London SW18. [ Now I believe called South London Tec. ] and passed C&G ‘B’ certificate in Electrical Installation and an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the late 1960s.
So I was brought up in the 13th / 14th edition of the IEE Wiring Regs so I am a bit out of date with the modern regs and the sprinkling of Three Letter Acronyms used on this Forum. Just ordered a book on the 17th edition [ yes I know that the 18th is due soon ]
I spent most of my working life involved in maintenance or construction supervision and safety on projects running at anything between 240 volts and 132 kv.
Currently I do the odd DIY job on my own premises but often have a qualified sparks in when the job is too heavy or difficult for me. I do NOT do work for other people or charities.
