Hi, ive been asked by a cleint if i can install there new towel rail at the end of thier bath high up above the taps , this would be in zone one...

if the towel rail is above ipx4 and spur is positioned outside the bathroom at high level and protected by and RCD would ths be acceptable...

thanks to anyone who takes the time to help !

I cant see anything wrong with that Fred.

IPx4 for zone 1 (plus have a look at the maufacturers instructions before you or the customer gets the towel radiator)

The only thing I would be thinking of is the flex outlet plate, is that going to be IPx4?

Also the work is notifiable.

If the flex is long enough take it through a connection unit and connect it directly into the isolator without cutting it, or if it's not extend it and heat shrink it so you can do this.

Corrected that for you .... there will be no charge. :)

Yeah that is a concern but im thinking if they sell a towel rail which is fed from the top amd have the flex plate high up would be in zone two then?

Make me right if im wrong mate!

I always make sure the flex outlet plate is outside the zones. If you're going to bring the flex down from above it will have to be above 2.25m then it goes from 'zone 1' to 'outside zone' (even above a bath), but thats still a pretty long, dangly, unsitely piece of flex coming down!

Couldn't you take the flex through the wall and have the outlet plate outside the bathroom?

I was going to do the very same thing, but I have come to learn it is not nice to jump on new members straight away.:laugh3:

I asked the Elecsa helpline this very question a few years back.

Their advice was that as the "only" connection would be an outlet plate, and with the cable exiting "downwards" there would be no problem. The outlet plate being in the zone wasn't relevent as its not a switch/plug

How do you feel about that Murdoch? I dont think I be comfortable putting an outlet plate (if there was a connection inside) in zone 1 as there's not going to be a watertight seal against the wall.

I don't think you can get a towel rail that has the heater at the top

Thats why you become an electrician Dingle!! To solve these problems....

But the thermostat will be at the top and the towel rail will not get uniformly hot surely ?

It was a joke Dingle. Didn't think anyone would take it seriously :smiley2:
