Why do we BOTHER!

So a well respected local bathroom company takes over £20K off a local couple to refit 2 x bathrooms.

The well respected local bathroom company subcontract the sparking and from what I can see they:

1. Installed a new circuit to accomodate a couple of sockets, in the adjacent bedroom and under floor heating in the ensuite. The circuit is protected by a 32A type C RCBO and also has a RCD FCU "protecting" the underfloor heating.

2. A MWC was issued for the above but no notification and it took months of hassle from the client to come and test/ cert it.

3. New lights, a fan and an pumped shower were installed in the ensuite, which also had a wall moved and the switches/cables for the fan and lights are in the new wall. No RCD protection on this circuit. No certificate was issued and surprise, surprise, no notification either.

4. I've attached a "redacted" copy of the MWC protecting the customer and the numptie spark - who I don't think did the install, as I think the bathroom fitter did the install

I'm in the process of helping the customer word an email to the well respected bathroom company asking them to explain the shortcomings of their installation!

I notice you've got a type B RCD too...

I'm just a trainee so had nothing to do with it. Had a mooch, practice for my 2394/5, I have a broken ring: one socket in the kitchen is on one leg, everything else (including the cooker) is on the other. I left a message on their answerphone last week, no call back. Have emailed them giving them the opportunity to put it right, we'll see what happens. In the meantime I've swapped the 32A MCB for a spare 16A, and am avoiding boiling the kettle, cooking, microwaving and running the wall mounted fan heater in the conservatory at the same time for the time being.

The best ones I saw were a cert for a bathroom install with RCD test readings....miraculous as there was no RCD present.And a kitchen alteration with r1,rn and r2 readings.... on a 20a radial !

I don't see how you can blame Part P - if it wasn't for Part P I doubt many, if any certs would get issued at all!

If your using this for practice remember LIM is only for EICR not MEIWC but I bet you picked that up on your studies>

what im saying is part p is not getting adhered to it wants policing properly too many unskilled people just joining niceic napit etc and having a stab at it minimum requirement for me would be a jib card no card no work

Follow up on this: bloke who owns the company phoned me up this morning and came round this afternoon. Lots of apologies. Said bloke who did the work doesn't work for them anymore. Ring restored - break probably a result of plasterer filling in a back box (we did wonder at the time why we'd got one less socket than we asked for!). All good

He really was very apologetic, and rather embarrassed.

Couldn't agree more with regards no jib card no work.

Just about any one can join domestic installer scheme.

I do a lot of domestic work for a builder and every certificate I issue with a copy of my JIB Gold Card gets accepted every time and building control sign of every job.
