Hi all.

usaul story, first fixed a new build now boarded and skimmed. Customers has now gone to howdens to get the kitchen designed and has decided he wants two ovens. One is a fan oven and the other is an all in one grill, oven and microwave all in one, one is 2.8 kW and the other is 3 kW. I have run a 6 mm cable to a dp switch above the counter then to a outlet plate behind where the single cooker was meant to go. My first thought was just to run another cabe but now it's been skimmed this would be a pita! Not sure weather to run a new cable and keep them on separate mcb's or to use a dual outlet plate and put them both on the same breaker say a 32a. The cookers are on order so iv no manufacturers instructions at the moment but if I decide to run a new cable I will need to do it before the kitchen fitters come in!! What is the norm when having two ovens as all the new builds I have done up to now have either been a stand alone oven and hob in one or a single oven with a gas hob.

thanks

....... or to use a dual outlet plate and put them both on the same breaker say a 32a.

^ That is your answer ^

Any appliance above 13a requires its own supply. These are 2.8Kw and 3Kw so no worries there then. 6mm on a 32A MCB for this install is fine. A dual outlet plate would be needed/best or if you really want to be posh, an Iso switch for each cooker?

I despair as to the state of the building industry. Why the hell are plans being drawn after the plasterers have finished? What's the project manager doing to create that royal cockup?

There re is no project manager, it's a local chap who is building on a piece of land he owns so he is running it himself. So it's a kind of make it up as you go alone sort of build witch is a pita as no plans and constant changes etc. Will go there and move the dual output box before next week, thanks all

When I was an apprentice my mentor would refuse to start any job like this without a set of plans. And that set of plans was never let out of our custody!

Dave things have change a lot since then. We have to be electrical Ninja's these days! Always ready to react to the ever changing movements of the client/builders requests. End of the day if they dont have a plan, here is the extras bill for your changes!

You may find that the all in one grill microwave comes with a 13amp socket attached, did one a while ago, Bosch I thing it was.

The Bosch one that Howdens sell seems to, not sure about the other makes

Hmmm, was thinking diversity, but your right of course, looking at the Bosch manual maximum combined load is 2.6kw so it would need to go on the cooker circuit. However, it has a pug attached (with a 16amp fuse apparently!) which manufacturer states must be connected to a socket.

Hard to comment without seeing the manual <link?>
Many ovens etc are made for a wide market, europe incl. Sur le continent a usual circuit to the appliance would be a radial with a 16A breaker on it terminating in a 16A socket (schuko is likely).
Note that there is no fuse in the plug, its only us Brits that do these things………..

Still don't have any manual or anything as customer is still deciding on make and model etc, worst case will have to come from outlet plate to two sockets behind each appliance. Not ideal and will have to check if it conforms as will be doing away with the manufacturers plug but it's all boarded so not ideal to have to change the ring main now

Crikey, what is this house powering to require a ring main?!

A bit pedantic!:6:

I bet you still say "live" when you should say "line"
I don't think it's pedantic at all. If people in this industry are qualified and working professionally then they should at least be able to use correct terminology to other professionals. Please refer me to where in BS7671 or any of the guidance notes it refers to a 'ring main' and how the phrase used it the above context is correct?
