....utterly paranoid over the godawful busbar system on many CU's these days?Fitted a Wylex Am3 board today,it was necessary to fit all the devices first and then slot the poxy busar into all the terminals making sure not to get the tabs in behind the clamp....which unless you are a contortionist you cant flaming well see. Resorted to a small mirror in the end,just as well as sure enough the offset tab for an RCD had gone in behind the clamp. Fire proof? They damn well need to be with that busbar system.
Would have use crabtree if CEF had had one in the configuration I needed.....a million times better than any other CU.
And another thing wylex,why does the poxy main switch slide all over the place untill you connect the tails,at which point it'll refuse to stay in the right position,usually meaning everything is about 5mm out of kilter when you try and fit the cover?Crabtree ones stay put,Wylex,Hager etc take note.

Know what your saying as had similar issue with Hager M/C board. I just put all the breakers where I knew they would be staying and took the whole lot off still attached to the din rail and then fitted the busbars.

There isn't much of a gap underneath the breakers that's for sure.

I always take the din rail out of a new CU and terminate all the neutrals and CPCs before putting it back with Main Switch, RCDs ,MCBs and busbar attached and connect all the phase conductors + tails last, it's good to tighten the busbar under the MCB terminals where you can see it all properly.

Also,if modules/mcb's are sliding around,and causing cover misalignment,a small square of double sided adhesive padding,can be placed behind a couple,to contain movement.

It does not affect removal,is not additionally inflammable,and it is always an absolute pleasure to finish the R&D,manufacturing and assembly processes of any company,who allows me to do this,whilst my money is safely in their pocket...:32:

I had to do a CU swap the other day inside a kitchen cabinet and it was not a full size cabinet one, one of the half size ones with the CU about 10 inches off the ground level. I couldn't get my head underneath it to see the busbar was going in ok behind the clamps ok. After about 10 attempts and suffering multiple cramp attacks in my legs because I was screwed up like a ball trying to squeeze myself into the cabinet I got it secure. But believe me there was a lot of profanities going on!

Glad I'm not the only one then!
Wasnt aware of a wylex fixed busbar?? I suppose the advantage of the loose system is it allows on site configuration,I still hate them though.give me a crabtree plug in busbar over one of those all day.

Me too, I work on controls mostly, not domestic CU's but I carry a small inspection mirror in my tool case. They should be standard kit for all sparkies although maybe a plastic or insulated version might be better.

Funny seeing this thread today, because first remedial of the morning I noticed this little baby. Wylex RCBO'S in a Contactum CU and somebody has missed the busbar. Still melted the internal plastic just lucky it had only central heating on it.
