Daylight Tubes

Hi All

Got a commercial kitchen in a basement without windows and natural light!

Are there any H&S regs stating what type of lighting shout be used in this situation? Daylight, Cool white, Full spectrum?????

i'd use cool white LED lighting, either converted florries or the 600 sq. panels. customer agreeing, of course.

Agree with telectrix mate, 600mm by 600mm LED panels, thinner profile the better. Flush fit inside the ceiling looks best but you cant always do that obviously.

the ones i have just fitted can come with a pattress frame for surface mount if it's on a normal ceiling. try and get a pic later today.

To give you some more info the kitchen in question was completed in 2014 with cool white tubes. The question is, is there a H&S Regulation that requires the use of daylight or full spectrum tubes as there is no natural daylight in the basement kitchen ? I'm no going to be installing new fittings just replacing lamps.

they'll be covered in grease in a week so you'll have rainbow effect.

As far as I am aware there are no regulations for health and safety concerning the colour of light available in a room with no natural daylight.

There may be some considerations of comfort and avoidance of glare but colour temperature really only comes into personal choice and occasionally daylight full spectrum for those affected by the lack of daylight, but not normally relevant in a work environment.

What you may wish to investigate is the CRI (Colour Rendering Index) requirements. If this kitchen is preparing products that have to meet certain appearance criteria they may need good colour reproduction.

It all depends on your local authority, environmental health is generally the department. The colour of lamps or fittings will not matter to them, the IP rating might especially if fluorescent. The colour for food display is important, should be 4000k-6500k but what I would do is ask my wholesaler to design on that as they all should be able to provide a lighting design for you...but that's for display
