As I'm sure you are aware Amd 3 states that wiring in escape routes should have fire resistant supports.

Just wondering what others would do from a realistic and practical point of view if you were to add an additional light in a corridor say. Would you then have to ensure that all the wiring for that lighting circuit in the escape route had fire resisting supports.

Seems a bit impractical but just interested to know what other would do.

The modification you do must comply with the wiring regulations, this compliance may involve the rest of the circuit from say a consideration of Zs or the circuit protective device or if there is already a 6 A load on a 6 A circuit you cannot add more load. However there is no requirement to upgrade the rest of the circuit to full compliance, it must be safe to make your modification that is all.
Say you are adding a cable to a piece of PVC trunking across an escape route, then if you have the chance (and the approval of the customer) then you can support all the cables in that length trunking and not just your cable as this would probably be easier.

Many thanks Richard Burns for clarifying this. Is there anything in the regs that states that just your work needs to comply rather than the whole circuit or is it a case of interpretation?

Thanks Bennie. Yeah I have Oslo microwave sensor 2D type fittings which I was hoping to use. So permanent supply to all this would suffice? Thanks
