Hi All,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to solar systems so decided to join the forum to see advice.

My mate at work has bought a bungalow that he is about to completely renovate.
It has a solar panel system installed which he considers is just in his way, so he wants rid of it.

It consists of 14 panels, with model number ET-M660250BB. It has an inverter in the loft, but I don't know the model number. I don't really know any more than that except that it is a complete working system.

He says I can have the whole shooting match for a nominal fee.

Now, I live in a 1929 semi-detached, square bay window, three bedroom house. It has a funny shaped roof, and the house is almost due south facing, with no shading. But there is no way I can get 14 panels on it because of the shape.
I reckon I can probably get 5 on the due south facing part of the roof with another 3 on a due east facing part of the roof.

In the photo mine is the lefthand house of the pair.

Big question is, is it worth it?

Any advice will be very gratefully received and if anymore info required please ask.

Why would he want rid of it!! It will reduce his energy bills and depending upon when installed may also be an income stream for him (could be worth up to ÂŁ20k). That is SERIOUSLY shortsighted of him (remember NEVER to take his advice in the future if it comes to investing !!)

That's a 3.5kWp system, (14 x ET Solar 250 W Mono panles) There is nothing wrong with the panels, they should last for at least another for at 20 years.

You'll get some panels on the west as well.

With such variation in orientations and the small number of panels facing east, you'll probably have to replace the inverter most likely either with solaredge (with optimisers) or enphase micro-inverters

If you buy it for a nominal sum, then it can also reduce your energy bills, though you won't be eligible for the FiT income.

To make sure that nothing is damaged, it would be worth you while getting a quote from a local installer (on this forum as they are the most honorable and you'll get an honest price) to both remove and reinstall the system on your property, they will also be able to source any additional / replacement components needed for the mounting system and install it safely from an electrical point of view (there are lost of nuances that are easy to get wrong if you don't know)

In the above case i'd offer with ÂŁ50 a panel and expect him to give you the mounting system and inverter system foc.

SolarEdge are tying up with Tesla for the Powerwall battery backup system so that me be a better choice than enphase in the long-term.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

His inverter might not work brilliantly at your house. If all his panels are on one roof and facing the same direction, it's likely that the inverter was selected for that scenario. If you plan to install on 2 or 3 surfaces, the inverter may well be incompatible.

As stated, removing them is poor financial planning by your friend. Can he not temporarily remove them and replace them after the renovations are complete? A decent local installler would be able to assist with this.

Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated.
I'm in Market Harborough, East Midlands.

I don't know of the circumstances of the install at his bungalow. The panels are off, removed by his builder.
Hopefully I'll get more details on the inverter when I see him next week.

I'm such a newbie at this I didn't know you could spread the panels around the roof. I could probably get 5 facing south, 3 facing east and the rest facing west, if that'll work.

I have no real idea why he doesn't want them. Perhaps after the renovation to the bungalow they won't work.

Worcester, with your logic I am paying about ÂŁ18 a panel with everything else chucked in foc.

Its been a long time since I started this thread but things have moved slowly.

All the panels were on my friends bungalow on a south facing roof. The reason he can't use them is because
he has had a dormer room fitted in the roof space so now doesn't have any roof area left to refit the panels.

I now have everything at my house so would like to move things along if possible.
As stated above there are 14x ET-M660250BB panels, lengths of mounting rails with brackets, clips and a Sunny Boy TL3600-20 inverter.

I'm about to start getting quotes to have my house re tiled. When the work starts the house will be scaffolded so it would be an ideal time to have the panels fitted just after the roofing work.

Would anyone close(ish) to me be prepared to come and have a look? I'm in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
Or do installers frown upon fitting used panels etc.

any help and advice greatly appreciated.
