Hi, this maybe a daft question but are there auger bits on the market with shallower flights than standard ? Sometimes while drilling (through wood obviously) the auger tends to pull itself through a bit too quick for my liking; im reasoning that a bit with shallower flights might give me that extra control while maintaining its function as an auger bit. Thanks

this should pull in nice and easy:

Slow your drill down

Yes but, thought maybe there would be an improved bit that would eliminate doing so; one for Dragons Den !

It's been done.

Years ago I bought some bits called 3D bits
You could add half a hole to an existing
You could drill a curved hole and much more.
You had great control over them.

They were great till I loaned them to one of my Sons and haven't seen them for years now.

I got a MAD bit from TLC I think a good number of years ago. Keep meaning to buy some other sizes as they are great drill bits, especially for counter sinking. And they stay sharper for longer.

Screwfix do them:Disston Multi-Angle Drill Bit 15mm | Multi Angle Drill Bits | Screwfix.com

To the OP, if your auger bits have the screw thread at the tip you can pilot drill the timber right through, say with a 6/7mm bit, to reduce the screw tip trying to pull the auger bit through to quickly.

I use spade bits with the screw on top(bosch). I only use an auger bit for traditional joists, just grip it like a man and expect the jarring force. I also use a ck flute bit 32mm which is a beast and saves your arms a bit.
