Yeah could of been alot worse, ive change it now and every thing is fine, just surprises me how people can do such a bad job at changing a plug and think it is fine.

To be fair, If they've only used a butter knife it's difficult to make a really good job.

Hi bud,just injecting a bit of devil's advocate...it is possible that the plug top was,terminated ok,but has arrived at that state,due to several reasons.

It looks like a cheap plug-top,and the fact that your dryer was still spinning,indicates power was still on,just the element had failed.

I have written several reports,regarding incidents such as this,and there are,in general, several factors occurring simultaneously or intermittently.

Poor quality plug-tops (BS rated or not...),under-counter S/O encountering minimal use,maximum dust/debris,sustained high current usage (not discounting a possible increase due to non-obvious dryer fault)...

We would feed a fixed water heater,say immersion,from a fused connection unit,for this reason,when the load difference for a dryer,may only be a few amps either way.

A friend of mine,supplies and repairs white goods,and this issue is extremely common,not usually becoming more serious or widely known,as the new or exchange machine,comes with a new plug-top. It is only when the heat damage has spread to the S/O,that more work identifies the problem.

There are MANY more hidden household disasters,some i have witnessed,such as capped vents,on loft cylinders (over bedrooms),and DB's with fitted but bypassed RCD's,are far more worrying.

My pals grandad,when i was a kid,used to say we were "sleeping with the enemy",after inviting pressurrised water,gas and electricity,into our homes...and he was partially correct,as my experience ever since,has proved attaining 100% safety, to be impossible :joker:

If I were you I would have a good close look at the socket outlet that this plug has been in. The heat may well have damaged it. Daz
