What cable type is this? SWA?

I feel quite nostalgic reading this - don't think I've touched Pyro since I was an apprentice in the 60s! The potting tool is the essential item (plus the ringing tool) - you can strip the copper with sidecutters, but screwing the pot on with pliers is decidedly dodgy!
Let me think now - Ringing tool, Stripping tool, Potting tool and Pot Crimping tool - quite a little tool set! Plus the Seal Kit - Pots, sleeves and sealing compound. No wonder they don't bother with it today!

But once it's done (properly), it's there for ever! One serious point though - the mineral insulation is hygroscopic - if it's exposed to moisture for long the IR will plummet. So the first thing to check with Pyro is the IR. If it's down you may need to cut it it back a foot or so - or start a heating dry out process ( bung a few amps through it).

Dressing Pyro is another speciality - you either end up with a work of art, or a mess, for all the world to see!

Not needed. As was said earlier, the sheath is already earthed (needs checking and testing) via the earthed pot.
If you can find a suitable method of box cable entry for the potted pyro end it can be connected safely.
 
Is my memory at fault ? (as is usually the case):)

I have this memory as a apprentice of using beads rather than neoprene as the conductor insulation for pyro ends
