I haven't done many rewires and have not come across the scenario where I need to bring all the cables down to a consumer unit in a chase. I expect there will be around 10-15 cables of varying sizes.

I can find 50mm capping but is there a better way to cover a large amount of cables in a chase or is a just a matter of using many pieces of standard size capping?

Cheers all.

I regard the area above the cu as a "safe zone " as should anyone else so no need to comply with AG , every where else an earthed metallic covering, although then the regs wander of into covering their arses with "or provided with suffient to afford bla de bla"

best capping I ever seen:

Wouldn't comply with building regs in England at that height in a new build anymore unfortunately.
correct. our stupid building regs makes you fit the CU in reach of dwarfs and children.

Often found in Scotland, CU in downstairs loo, close to the ceiling, in recent builds. I suppose you can check the earthing by putting your foot in the bowl...
and they put that extra loo at the front too, but that's a different rant!

Not entirely sure it does here either. But in the mass built new builds it's the way they all seem to be done. Probably find it's the same in England as building control don't bother much with it.
