Where would you use this tool ?

In the wholesaler the other day I saw with the volt sticks one for picking up magnetic fields, where would this be used ??

Contactor / relay coils to give an indication as to their opperation, further checks may be required, but like the voltstick, quite good as an early indication that requires further investigation.

didnt see a picture but this is a mag probe they detect a magnetic field.
they were handy for checking coils and solenoids and motors.
they had an attenuator ring to weaken the ambient field of residual magnetism
this is what you may have been describing, low cost test device consisting of a reed switch, battery, and LED
