Probably a stupid question but need to get it straight in my head. Am I right in thinking that with a strapper line of two way and intermediate switches you can’t take the line in and the switch line out to the the light at one of the intermediate switches?

you can as long as the L and s/L are coneected to the strappers, any way round, they can go anywhere on the switching part of the circuit.

The core from a specific terminal on the two way switch to the matching terminal on the intermediate switch is a continuous conductor so you can connect your L and SL anywhere along that conductor. Once you move to the other side of the intermediate both L and SL must be on that side.
In the below diagram you can connect any one SL 1-5 at any point so long as one of the L1-5 is also connected at any point. Similarly with SL 6-9 and L6-9.

when using a 3 core for strappers, brown and grey are the switch connections, black is straight through using choc block, wago or similar all 3 cores should be sleeved brown. no matter how mant intermediate switches you have, L goes to brown. S/L goes to grey, either at 1 of the 2 way switches ( L1 and L2) or anywhere along the strappers (brown and grey).
