Pull cord switch is no longer used in bathroom, lighting switched on/off by external (to bathroom) fused switch.

Would like to remove pull cord switch, can the cable be removed and the previously switched terminals be linked together in the junction box?

Thank you

Quick answer is no they cannot be linked together in a junction box.

why is the bathroom light on a fused switch.

edit: answered before picture was posted. To add to above there are a few issues in that junction box.

whole thing really need taking apart and re doing.

Thank you.

Wasn't me, honest!
New lights and fan fitted by electrician prior to moving in.

Found cable choice for fan and no marking on switched live strange to say the least.

That earth core used as a live is not good.

Why do you want to switch the light on with an FCU?

The pull cord is in an awkward location and requires the door to be opened closed to be used. It currently has no string and no cover, hence wanting to remove rather than replaced.

I guess someone’s added the fan and read the instructions that it needs a 3A fuse, hence a switch fuse isolating all of the bathroom.

Using the cpc as a live is a big no-no, and really needs fixed pronto. (Gees… that’s 6 times my phone has changed “cpc” to “coconut”!!!)

If you post your general area, there might be a local forum member could sort this for you

Thanks, laughing at coconuts!

I'm quite surprised at this installation as it was done at the same time as a new consumer unit which is very neat and tidy.

I'll grab a metre of 3 core and rewire the fan with the correct sleeving.

Yup, I'll use 3 core aaand Earth, also sleeved and terminated out the way.

Will try and find out why this wasn't done in the first place.

as mentioned by Westward a link is the way forward, nothing wrong with that and the pull cord will then be the on off switch.
