Economy 7 moved to single rate meter, should it be charged at the same rate?

I recently switched from economy 7 to a single rate smart meter. I have two fuse boards and wondered should these now be on 24hours a day and should they be charged at the same rate?
I got my bill through and it looks like they are charging us at different rates, both of which are higher than our daytime economy 7 rate.

Are you sure its a single rate smart meter? Are the circuits that were on the low rate still live? A picture of your meter and fuse boxes may help.

I will take a picture when I get home but we’re currently going through the ombudsman as we’ve been trying to switch for 6months. They have replied to the ombudsman saying we are on a single rate meter so they believe that we are.

If you're on a single rate meter there will only be one rate to charge at.

If the Energy co say you are on a single rate but are charging 2 rates they are contradicting themselves.

If the second fuse board has / had storage heaters and maybe immersion heater(s) connected to it then it would have either been switched on by the old 2 rate meter or another timer which would have been removed when the new single rate meter was fitted.

Can you also take a picture of the bill showing the 2 readings / rates charged, without any personal or address details showing.

Thank you for your help! This is what they sent yesterday saying we are on a single rate meter.

Looking at the bill,



They've corrected an over estimate on the old meter resulting in a minus usage and credit



It was misleading seeing 2 readings / charges on the new meter at first but it's 2 consecutive periods not 2 rates.
So although it's 2 rate meter they are only making one charge, presumably the meter is either configured as a single rate meter or they are amalgamating the Day and Night usage readings.
The latter is unlikely as they would show the Day and Night readings.

The second, previously Off peak consumer unit connected to cable LLL at the meter, may or may not be on, it depends how they configured the meter.
Does it need to be on, do you have Storage heaters or anything else connected to it?

First usage on the new meter = 0 actual to estimated 77.. 24/09 to 01/10/21
Second usage on the new = 77 estimated to 553 actual..01/10 to 13/11/21





It looks like between the 2 billing periods above there has been a rate increase, as your current tariff is variable as stated in the communication from them, 17.93p/kw to 19.78p/kwh, probably due current energy costs.

And there also looks to have been a small rate increase at the time the meter was replaced from 17.86p/kwh to 17.93p/kwh

If your previous tariffs were on a fixed rate contract with some time to run, and from one of the few energy suppliers that hasn't gone bust, then your unfortunate timing, at the same time as a massive increase in wholesale energy costs, is likely to cost you money instead of saving as you probably had hoped.
