- TL;DR
- Hello. I saw this while visiting friends last week.
I’m not sure what it is supplying power to, or if it is safe as it is.
Any ideas?

If that solenoid is 230v it almost certainly is not safe
Can you get a picture of top of the solenoid as it looks like voltage information may be stamped on the plate

12V is on the white fitting.
A 230v solenoid would have some evidence of a cover, or flex grip.
If it’s 12 or 24, then it’s safe, but doesn’t look very robust. The cable could easily get tugged off.
The other t&e cable, at first I thought it was a taped up choc bloc connector, but zooming in, it’s one of those sticky backed pads for getting a cable tie fixing.
Possibly the cable is part of the heating wiring, or a feed for immersion heater?
Just a bit untidy hanging like that.

Whoever fitted it could have least cable tied the cable sheath to the pipe.
Yes it definitely wants some support and strain relief.
even if it is 12v then it should be properly supported and terminals should not be accessible.
it may well be a lower risk but it is still a risk.
remember, just because it is 12v doesn't mean you can do what you like, the shock risk is reduced but the current is higher and a poor connection is still a risk of fire.
I have seen worse and would not be loosing sleep over it but it could do with improvement.

It’s definitely 12V, and the plugs are decidedly wobbly!
Can’t get in to make it better yet as friends isolating with covid.
