Hello everyone! Can somebody please help me. We have this Newlec Economy 7 water heater in our apartment. It looks exactly the same as the Hortsmann Economy 7. It's the one that has a winter/summer timer and the boost timer as well. However these past couple of weeks, the winter/summer timer does not work anymore. We can only use the boost one. Do we have to replace the unit or replace the battery? It's very hard because we have to wake up an hour to set the boost timer (which runs for just an hour) on to have hot water for shower in the morning:sad_smile: Please can somebody help. Thanks

I realise that your problem has been raised 10 years ago but I am experiencing the same problems.
Maybe you can tell me how you resolved it so many years ago.

The timed water heater does not come on (you do not hear the heating up sound but the red light comes on) BUT the boost is working which is great.

I am wondering if I should simply try and reset the water heating timer to factory setting? This might do the trick or as my IT people always say when people experience problems with their PC's: "Have you tried to restart it?"

Please do let me know if you get this message after so many years! Cheers

Hi montanescu
I've had some experience of Horstmann timers so I'll chip in.
Is it the Horstmann Economy 7 Quartz?
Is the timer going round? (I see why you call it winter/summer, but it's basically a 24 hour clock/timer)
If it is, does the 'timed' indicator light come on at the appropriate time? Actually I now see you say it comes on - presumably that is at the appropriate time!

The battery is for keeping the clock going Eg during a power cut), so if it's going round that's not the problem!

A possibility is that the bottom immersion heater has packed up.

Attached is the photo. Ignore the green arrow as this was from ages ago

OK it's the Newlec Electronic 7 - I guessed the wrong one!
In this case your's does not look like the Horstmann ones I am used to!
Does the LCD clock keep time OK?
If it does, can you just confirm the "timed" light does come on at night?

If it does, I am beginning to think the bottom immersion heater on your tank may have stopped working.
Thermal cutout tripped? Immersion has gone open-circuit?
It would be a simple matter for an electrician to check that the immersion element is working.

You could try a reset as described in the user instructions, but I'm not convinced that is the issue!

Many thanks. I will check this out then.

Sounds like an electrician would be the right person to call in case your reset doesn’t work. And not a plumber?

Immersion heaters are 'in between' the two. I would rather trust an electrician to diagnose the state of the immersion heater (I would say that!), but you may need a plumber to do the 'wet' bit if same electrician decides it needs replacing, but says it's not his sort of job!
Some do, some don't!
