Hi folks, it turns out my Friedland chime must be really old (going by mercury switch and white wiring!) and I'm struggling to fit a Ring doorbell. I'm trying to fit the jumper cable none of the cables have indications as to which is front, trans, rear. I can't see anything that looks like this online or on this forum. Can anybody tell me which two I need to connect? They're labelled 0,1,2,3 but 0 is empty.

Thank you!!

As far as I can see, there are three individual wires in the pic. Bell wire consists of two individual wires, so the number of wires we can see should be a multiple of two.
Conclusion: There's a hidden joint somewhere, which, if you're lucky, may be behind the chime.
These chimes were designed to be used with two pushes - typically one at the front door and one at the back, with the front door push making the gong sound continuously, and the back door just the once. Does you system have two pushes?

Thanks for your reply. Just one push at the front door. Not sure if it ever had one at the back though as it's quite far to to back door from the chime and the house was built in the 60s. If I take the chime off the wall and find a 4th wire (assuming that will be white also) does it simplify things at all? Thank you!

Though you're right the push at the front door does keep chiming over and over if it's held down

It will simplify things considerably if you can find the fourth (or even the fourth, fifth and sixth) wire behind the chime.
The Ring instructions are badly written and confusing, and should be binned. All you are trying to do is to connect the pair of wires that come from the transformer to the pair of wires that go to the front door, including the 'link' which I strongly suspect is a fuse, in line with one of the wires.
The old chime will do absolutely nothing, except cover a scar on the wall.

You wont be able to use the existing chime with a Ring door push/camera. Ring do a wireless 'plug in to 13A socket' chime unit.
You will need to terminate the pair from the transformer to the door push as eg 12v supply only to the door push.
How best to make good where the old chime was?

I've taken the chime off and Brian was correct - 3 pairs of wires but 3 are twisted together as in the picture.

I don't want to use the chime with the Ring, just power it as it's a wired version. Thank you!

Do you have a multimeter?
One of the pairs of wires comes from the transformer, one pair from the front door, and the other pair from the back.
Temporarily disconnect one pair of wires, and try the chime from the front door. If the chime still works, then the pair you have disconnected is the unwanted pair from the back door.
If the chime doesn't work after disconnecting that pair, reconnect them again, and disconnect another pair.
