HI all,

doing first install,

we are just fitting the hangers today, my question is do you have to lead flash the roofer im working with says there is no need. i took some photos

I do on Rosemary as a matter of course, some of the older clay tiles crack the moment you stare at them! You can bet a hairy one that once the rail is on and your lifting the panels up the little tile underneath the hook will crack and all you will hear is that anoying noise as the broken bit slips down the roof and you shout out loud F*&%^%%^ Hell!!

so whats the best thing to do, flash the tile thats under the bracket. i dont mind because i can see it will only take 5 mins, also roofer asked what gaugue i wanted as there was alot in the price, can you get the thinest??

code 3 - Price per Kg, depends on supplier, i used 150mm wide. I flashed under and over on mine, but had different hooks to you.

Yup, code 3. Get loads of the stuff on rosemary installs. I would lead under and over also. The tiles need very little persuasion to fall to bits and judging by your installs there will be a fair bit of pressure on the tile just where you don't want it as soon as the winds gets up.

Neat looking install though.

lol, it did take us 4 hours to put two panles up, measure twice cut once lol,mind you were off on a flyer on the second roof now.

@BiggsSolar advice is spot on.

This is what I've been waiting for - it's even Eurocode 5 compliant (Happy Bunny !!) :hurray: The only solar roof anchors designed for UK roofs

Yeah, we saw those at Power Of Three. Look good but I still don't like the idea of them on rosemary tiled roofs. I like to have a bit of movement on the bracket before the downforce touches the tile below. Maybe a bit overcautious but I worry about the long term pressure on the tile. I prefer a higher bracket which I can lead over and that allows this kind of tolerance.

Yes, I notice in the video here

that they are all laid in contact with the tiles. Can't help thinking that the tiles will chip/crack as soon as you start putting pressure on the framework when installing the panels. Presumably they have done that deliberately in the video?

I had a good look at these too and asked the same questions, they are designed so that (on tiles) they don't need flashing, from what I recall the slate ones still will.

From what I recall, because they are designed to need no cutting, the hook length was designed so that it went to at least the batten below, so that there shouldn't be any stress on a tile/slate between the battens.

With rosemary / plain tiles, one of the variables may be how much camber / curve the tile has along its length.

As soon as I get the opportunity we're going to test them out (after all my rants what else can I do!!).

I've asked for a set of installation instructions, so I'll let you know what comes back.

For above roof PV systems the array fixing brackets should not affect the weather tightness of the roof they are fitted to. For example, systems attached to tile roofs should be designed and installed such that the fixing brackets do not displace the tiles and cause gaps more than naturally occurs between the tiles. Fixing methods must not subject roof coverings to imposed loads which may degrade their primary purpose of maintaining weather-tightness.

Having followed the link to your site and seen the video I cant see how the brackets will comply with the above quotes. Please explain how they will. (a pm will do if you don't want to on the open forum)

The full installtion instructions (MCS012 requirement) are being prepared at the moment, complete with how to install in complience with the Eurocdes and LABC guidelines.
