Hi,

Rang the DNO on their emergency line and said that the main earth is non existent in a property as the Ze at the board was 32.8 ohms on that TNS system. The woman at the other end said, “fine, we will come and convert it into a PME but it will take 8 to 10 weeks as it’s not classified as an emergency situation.”

Their attitude probably was, “it ain’t bothered anyone so far why rush now?” Great!

Never fear, the DNO is here...

Next time tell them that you can smell burning coming from it.

Are the circuits protected by an RCD? Is so its probably not classed as an emergency situation to them. Usually a mention of something burning or a cable in a dangerous state gets them out.
In the north west, if your a commercial customer I know that usually a call to them results in an engineer within 3 hours max

Called the DNO out a couple of weeks ago as was rewiring a flat which was fed from a shop below. Upon inspection found out that the sub supply from the shop was in single 16mm's and no earth. The 16mm's were joined in 2 places with 30amp Choc Blocks taped up. The supply fuse in the shop below was crack and taped up. The DNO turned up within 3 days ( the flat was empty so no rush ) and laid a new 25mm concentric supply, bypassed the fuse in the shop and left me with some spare seals to seal the new 100amp fuse in the flat once i had completed the rewire and CU change, top job, couldn't have been more helpful.

dont put up with this crap from em goody...if this install is using the distributers facility as a means of earthing.....then they have a duty to maintain it......some of these call centre staff dont know what their on about....

If there is an RCD the 2-3 months if not and you push it you are told to fit an RCD although they dont like it when you say can you email me permission to remove the seal on the main fuse so I can fit an RCD thats where the catch 22 comes in they tell you to fit the RCD but wont let you break the seal

Back in the day you had to provide the electric board with a cert to say the installation was satisfactory, a (EIC), now the DNO could not care less unless it is a life or death situation how times have changed
