I know them as Crampets and was shown them when i was serving my time 20 years ago.

Are they still available and who knows them as any other name.

Crampets they are and always will be. I used them to secure 20mm plastic conduit in chases. Kinda been over taken now by plastic conduit clips, havent seen them in yonks.

I had a "what are these" question on crampets the other day on my 2330 level 2 Tech exam. Rather ashamed to say I didnt have a flippin clue!!

Hi What a shame the old stuff along with quality jobs are disapearing fast. How many new sparks have installed micc ?? These days its pvc and as quick as poss. I am sounding old but I can't wait to leave this trade - too much paperwork now and the standard of work has gone down !!

Crampets. They were great for firing with elastic bands....I dont know...the dodgy things you did when you were at college.
I also found a blob of egaweld on your hard hat peak made a great cap lamp when you lit it....:D:D

I know what you mean! I still wake up in sweats worried about being meggered with an micc cattleprod with a core behind each ear:mad:

Unashamed to say I found a nice dissused booth upstairs that noone knew about except the lecturer (brilliant old chap) he used to sit with me up there and make us tea! I had one on one tuition for all that time watching them all run amuck downstairs :D

I'll never forget how suprised they was when they were told they was gonna fail after months of muckin about!!!

Our lecturers were super strict. You would never mess when they were around. If you did they sent you back to your employer which was worse than flogging. I think though it made you a better craftsman. All the guys I was at college with are employed and exceptional tradesmen. Some of the apprentices that go through our company are terrible. No respect for the trades, mouthy little *****.
Think they know it all. Until you slate their workmanship...that usually puts em back down a peg or 2.

Scott, we used to do that on site. You could get an 1" half eight to stick straight into thermalite walls..The plasterers used to go ballistic...:D

I dont know why but 90% of the lads at college with me were sons of the gaffer etc so you can imagine the time I had, most of the time I was the only ne to turn up to science or electronics!

I know what you mean i have only ever worked with one apprentice and he "New it all" bosses son as well. Asked him to make up a double right angle and he failed badly bends were 2 inches out so it wouldnt fit in the corner. Took hin an hour as well. Started getting grumpy when i laughted and challenged me to do better. 10 min latter it was in and fitted and his face was shut!.

As for fun and games on site stanley knife along a sheet of gyproc as the joiner went by with it on his shoulder always got a reaction.
