Hi Nick,

Is it the actual wiring you are struggling with or is there a difference on the dimmer switch?

Any chance you can post up some pictures?

How many wires do you have at each location and is there a 3 core and cpc cable being used?

:thumbsup

Check the labeling of each switch as the labeling may not be consistent.
Some have C, L1, L2, others have L1, L2, L3; these are in consistent order (i.e. C is equivalent to L1 etc.)
Check the type of two way wiring used as it could be three wire or two wire and will cause confusion if they are not what you expect.
Check if it is switch fed or three plate wiring.

Once you know all this then you should be able to work out which wire does what, so long as you haven't mixed them up already!!!
However the photograph you took of each switch before starting should help??
I have drawn out four diagrams of possible ways of wiring in different formats which may be of use but may not.

At the last do end to end continuity checks on each disconnected cable and see where they go, a bit long winded but sometimes desperation strikes.
Good luck.

well, i managed to figure it out and solve it within half n hour. Thanks guys.

My only big mistake was that without noticing that the client supplied a 2 gang ONE way switch instead of a 2g 2way switch.. I was just in such a hurry to get down to the beach on Sunday that i didn't even realize the big difference. All i was thinkin was beers beers beers women and hot sun.

ahwell u live u learn.

the info helped me out a great deal too btw. thanks again.

regards,
nick

Yes one wire nut will grab a wire but I will suggest an orange one because the wire is 14 gage wire for lighting.
