Just had a phone call from a family friend after some reassurance, goes something like this...

we've had solar installed last week and they have put an earth strap on my incoming PVC water pipe does this seem ok to you ?

...and this right next to his easily accessible boiler where there is a whole selection of copper piping on show, what is the point in that then - muppets !

Suppose at least they tried to make an effort to bond, maybe they couldnt tell the difference between copper and PVC :90:

I remember a PAT testing thread on here where some wombat was insisting on 'testing' an all insulated phone charger by sticking the probe on the case and pressing test....apparently a vital test on a phone charger.....Same guy do you think?

Reckon so, he must have got a transfer down here and re-trained as a 'bonding specialist'...:bucktooth:

Not the best picture... but you get the idea - clamped right onto a nice black alkerthine incomer. Boiler a couple of meters to left with lots of nice shiny copper easily accessible all in the garage! Not sure what the other bit of cut off 10mm is doing in there either, rather strange.

Theyve got the original chap coming back sometime today, shame our paths didnt cross, bet feels like a bit of a plonker:19:

I had to laugh the other day when I received the OLCI brochure (trying to work out where to do the 2391) and on the front cover there's a picture of someone working on a combi boiler and all 5 of the pipes underneath are connected to each other with little lengths of 10mm! Guess boilers must be made of some funny metal that doesn't conduct...

And it looks to me like they were going to bond something else and then just cut it off after the clamp. Must have thought twice about earthing the plastic wheely bin or that plastic garden bench

Looks to me like they've splayed the end out a bit so that bolt will get a good bite on the cable, would have been quicker and easier to crimp a lug on I'd say. Still bloody useless either way.
I wonder if he tested this alkathene to see if it was less than 23k ohms. You never know they might be making it conductive now:)
