I was in a shop doing a couple of little jobs, I happened to look at the meter wheel which was skelping around at some speed so I clamped the tails 40A peak with nowt on but lights usual mix of tubes about 40 odd 20 spots of unknown wattage and the usual mix of GU's now I am the first to admit that I have not kept up on the progress of lighting,So what do you guys suggest I consider by way of advice to the customer

a few months ago I was waiting in an office to meet the manager of a warehouse complex to do a quote for something, and my eyes wandered up to the ceiling and my brain started to do some maths. So when I met him and shook his hand, I casually mentioned to him that by replacing all the lights for LED he'd save himself around ÂŁ200 pa after the first year just in that room alone, would probably not need the portable aircon unit on so much in the summer and the office girls would work more efficiently in a slightly cooler light temperature. How many other office rooms were like this? Didn't end up with the job as I decided to turn it away for various reasons, but it was a heck of an opener to the pitch!

You can't win with some though, Dom Littlewood and that prat on watchdog have painted us all as cowboys and salesmen.

Got a regular client who own's 3 food outlets in town, was working in one and spotted they still had GU10 50W halogens. They like to be quite independent and do lamp changes themselves, but costs per GU10 lamp for them was around ÂŁ2.50. Replaced regularly with being on 50+ hours a week.

Anyways, 1 Halogen lamp per year without replacement cost them close to ÂŁ25 to run. LED equivalent was under ÂŁ2 a year to run, with lamps guaranteed for 2 years. They told me they couldn't justify the cost of the lamps (think I quoted them something epic like a tenner a lamp supplied only). And they moan about costs and replace he halogens regularly.

Hairdressers across the road from one of the shops had me in, loved the LED idea and the energy saving. Sadly they thought the stuff I was supplying was too dear as Ebay had them cheaper, but did get the pleasure of telling them to jog on when the ebay led's they got themselves with no guarantee gloriously failed and died within months.

Did someone say hairdressers?? [ElectriciansForums.net] Lighting advice
