2 sensors to control 1 outside light

Hi Guy's,

I have a job to install some outside lights, but they all need to controlled by 2x sensors linked together as all lights need to come on when approached from either direction. There also needs to be an over-ride switch so that they can all be turned off/turned on/on sensor.

Anyone got any bright ideas on linking sensors without them conflicting with each other??????? :sick:

Depending on the load of the circuit I think the PIRs can only switch around 10A. So you may be better using a contractor setup with your 2 PIRs & override wired in parallel on the control side.

I have often wired 2 PIRs together and they they have never conflicted yet. You say this is to control one light, assuming on a house so i doubt overload is an issue. If not as Echo says

A few of the PIR's have a manual override function built in ie: switch off and back on again within 2 seconds will cause the lights to stay on until dawn or until switched off for more than 10 seconds - have a look at the PIR instructions.

That is going to be fun getting all those controls together!
The switched line output of the PIRs can be commoned so that either PIR switches on the lights, if they both operate then the lights will still be on.
To get the on off sensor controlled switching is more hassle I have done a (poor) diagram that shows a way, by using a 3 position grid switch, of having the lights either off, controlled by the PIRs, or on; the first diagram is easier to wire but would mean the PIR sensors would lose power each time you switch and would go into start up or manual when repowered; the second method uses two switches but allows the power to remain on to the PIRs (unless switched off) and has the 3 position switch allowing either permanent on, permanent off or sensor controlled.

or use a GJD system. elv pirs fed back to a central control unit, output to lights.

Not used that one but theres one system q do and you can control lights, relays, cctv, alarms, its an amazing bit of kit, i suspect thats the same sort of thing?
