Cooker Hood

Just had a message from a friend, they're trying to connect up their new Belling cooker hood and are slightly confused, manufactures instructions says Brown live and Blue neutral which is what i expect but the terminals have brown and red, I have asked them to send me a picture. Can anybody shed any light on this as I can only suggest they contact the manufacturer.

Balance of probabilities,, Brown is brown and Red isn't Brown.

thats not the mains terminals, that is a internal link I suspect, theres no earth there haha

Really?? never seen a plastic cooker hood myelf, those connections cannot be the mains in at those colours unless a foreign make, although usually it is black and white, hmmm.

Just looking at belling.co.uk and found a pdf for their hoods, it states that the unit is fully insulated and should not be earthed and the appliance is supplied with a 2 core mains cable for connection.

It's a brand new hood. Looks like they're gonna have to get a sparky in to fit it as they're up north and I'm down in the south.

You might be able to work it out by testing which colour is going to switch unless it's double pole switching but I doubt that.

It wouldn't surprise me if the supply lead is coiled up in the chimney and this is nothing to do with connection that they are trying to make, I have never come across a new chimney extractor that is not pre flexed.

Double insulated products don't have to have plastic cases - they can be metal; it's just that because they have two levels of insulation the metal outer case doesn't need to be earthed. Daz
