Just a quick question..

Just wondering, if was to replace a single socket that isnt working for a double socket, the cable are too short, are we allowed just to extend the cables with a connector block in the socket?

no...crimp them peter...you need red crimps for the CPC and blue crimps for your live conductors (assuming its 2.5/1.5 that is)...
 
I got both mine off ebay a fair few years back at a really good price.
They were probably knicked from the factory, but my moral standpoint is generally quite low!
