Hi I was wondering if a qualified electrician with more experience than me as a 2nd year apprentice could help me. I have been asked to think about hiw to power an outside building the main building has a 17th edition split board with 30 ma rcds and a small sub board in the attached garage with a 100 A main switch and 16A and 6A breakers. The outside building at nearest the garage end of the house so a lot nearer the sub board can I run power to this outside building from the garage board even though it has no rcd , because would the rcd on the main board cover the regs for providing additional protection as the garage board get its power from the main db which is rcd protected.

Tell us what you think the answer is, and why. If the answer's yes, tell us what the pros and cons are of taking the supply from the sub board. Maybe even include some additional information, such as the earthing system in this scenario (if known). Then you might get some useful replies.

Welcome to the forum.

Just a small thought to consider on your solution, if its possible to do it?. If the only RCD is in the house and you have a 'fault' in the outhouse, would you loose all power in the outhouse, garage and on the RCD protected circuits in the house? And how would you know what caused it?

Give it a go as "handy" suggests, dont be scared to get it wrong, just outline your thoughts and solutions. There are enough knowledgeable folk on here to point you in the right direction if you do .......

Giving too much away IMO before the OP has done some research and thought about it and responded Handysparks post
