Hi, I have been searching the forum for information on inverters and their comparative efficiencies, I havent found anything so was hoping someone might point me to relevant threads or perhaps a comparison table on the www.

I guess efficiency isnt everything and that some brands will have a better name than others, so pointers on that would be helpfull too.

I have been advised to put it outside when we install as the loft is difficult to access and hot in summer which interferes with the inverters performance. Is that correct, or does it depend on whose inverter you are using.

Off to paint the bathroom while I await your wise replies.

Thanks.

For a 4kW system using a string inverter, depending upon actual configuration, our first choice would be a power one PVI-3.6-OUTD , second choice would be SMA probably 3600TL (Comms requirements would dictate final choice) - we;ve mounted loads of both of those outside, the Power-one is better weather protected, so we tend to put a rain hood over the SMA. The power ones go just fine on a wall:

(Note this wall can't be seen from the road, the back, or the neighbours :) ) The conduit to the right is for the CT loop monitoring cable. - We used a 4 pole DC isolator on this, - we don't use them now, yes they save a few quid, however the inconvenience for mounting and servicing outweighs that saving, - for the same reason we aren't using the Santon 4 pole dc isolator.
