Discuss 17 th edition in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I ve been told that if I want to work as electrician I need get ecs card ...............ecs card now I have

I find it hard to believe that you could have an ECS (JIB) card within two weeks of asking about how you go about getting one. I recently renewed mine which was due to expire and waited over 4 weeks for it to come through.

You can't just TAKE the 17th edition exam, you need training before the exam to be allowed to sit it. Lucky for you it's 2 hours and 60 questions of multiple choice questions, when In doubt go for C.

only 1 publication required to join the MAD world of electrickery.

Thought that had all be scrapped?

So annoying that there are places willing to cut corners, when will this country learn - i.e. how many people have to get hurt before something is done.

It may have been, but I did my update that way 2 years ago. Was grateful of not having to shell out hundreds for a course after forking out for the green books. It wasn't something the centre advertised, I asked for just the exam showed them my quals and they agreed. Saved me a few quid.

this is a good topic what if an electrician from another country wanted to work here as an electrician would they need to start from scratch and do level 2 and 3 first then 17th edition or can they just do 17th edition with their existing qualifications from another country

Some foreign qualifications are recognised and transferrable in the UK and vice versa some UK quals are recognised by other countries. Depends very much on the exact qualification.....and no, before anyone asks, a part P qualification won't allow anyone to work overseas as a sparky.

Knowing the state of the trade, doing 17th is probably enough.

Hope whoever would have to do alot more and go through a stringent check aswell - like we do if wanting to go to Australia.
