craigday

hi guys, I've been asked to carry out a fixed appliance test" on equipment in a warehouse, such as cooker(industrial), and such things like loading bay lift which is wired into a isolator, and other hardwired equipment now do I need a special tester, like a pat tester or am I being really stupid here? any help would be appreciated, thanks

Nothing to stop you using a PAT tester.

one of these will help.:

The loading bay lift will need a little more than a pat test or MFT ... a ramp/lift service engineer is the one to be issuing a clean bill of health and safety for this equipment. Be vary careful if testing anything you are not accustomed to as their control systems may be sensitive with plc's, circuit boards, timers etc their is nothing wrong with checking larger equipment but know your limitations.

I get the hoists, lift ramps and similar equipment service tested yearly who confirms it meets relevant BS regulations for the equipment and as this falls outside the BS7671 you need to ensure your customer is aware this is not an official cert' of safety and compliance and requires competent persons to inspect such equipment. This is beyond you canteen kettle and fixed storage heater etc ....
