Petzel for me

Petzl for me too. Great little light, takes 3 AAA batteries and lasts ages.

Best part for me is the adapter mounting kit.

I have to wear a helmet most of the time, and I can't be bothered with those fiddly clips and headbands.
There is a little stick on attachment for the helmet, and a belt clip, so when I need light, it's off the belt clip and onto the helmet in 5 seconds, rock solid, will never stir.

After much deliberation trying to balance quality/price and reading several reviews, i decided on the new LED Lenser H7.2
Ordered it on Wednesday morning. It arrived this morning (Thurs) so obviously been playing with it most of the day. Comfortable and extremely bright. More than adequate for any loft space or cu change in a dingy cupboard.
I had thought about the H7.2R but as i have my own charger and batts i didn't think the extra was worth it. There is also a micro usb port on the side of the battery case that is not referenced anywhere so untill i get a lead i'm assuming it can be charged from usb which would be a great bonus.
The Coast HL8CLAM and Petzl Pixa 2 were also on my sub £50 shortlist. Spec wise the Coast looks the better on paper with the H7.2 and Pixa 2nd/3rd but the real world's down to personal preference. I got fed up comparing Lumens/weight/batt life and if i could help stop ships from running aground so just ordered the Lenser
Anyway, £42 well spent and a good bit of kit for the money.
Colin.

My headlamp was £10 off Ebay. Uses rear-mounted 18650 Lithium, which lasts ages and it's incredibly bright with a focus ring. It hardly ever leaves my head, easily goes all day on 1 charge.

If buying the cheapies, there are very bright ones about but also come crappy stuff. Need to check the spec on the LED. (Plastics may be less than perfect, but for a tenner I'm happy).
