No it was a reply to telextrix just saw your post after I'd replied

You may have the wrong kit mate my Knipex pliers aint got any springs or blades, just pliers with a semi pointed nose, cable shears, crimps etc, try googling then I did but can't post a link
here are the knipex ones

The knipex I have are the installation pliers, I probably wouldn't recommend them for the money really as although they do have their uses it seems a mismatched design to me and I tried using it as my main tool for quite some time , instead of using several different tools as its intended for, but always ended up putting it back and getting the proper one out of the bag.

Yes I've tried these and yes they are good but again they can be prone to breaking as there are springs , blades etc I'm looking for something a bit more basic.

Use your teeth. You won't find anything more basic than that & you have the added bonus of not forgetting to pack them in the toolbox.

I bet you've got appropriately sized notches for different size wires lol do you chew the larger size conductors?
Hmm can just visualise you chomping on some 240 mm

As an update I bought a pair of Channelock wirestrippers to try out (ÂŁ12.00)
as a basic no frills set for travelling abroad , the yanks use this style a lot to the extent where they'll carry 3 models on a toolbelt for different cable types, but I've never seen anyone use them here before .

So after some use I would say they aren't bad for panel work but because they are so sharp it's easy to cut through a few strands if you just close the selected hole on the wire and pull so I've adapted my technique by just using it to nip the insulation and using the needle nose pliers to grip and pull of the insulation which works perfectly with no broken strands, my only concern really is they're not forged but stamped pressings , but so far so good!
