Ring Final Cable Routing Through Bungalow Loft

Hi all. I know there is a DIY forum but im really after your expert knowledge rather than fellow DIY'ers/amateurs. With regards to replacing a section of a bedroom ring final circuit in a bungalow loft what is your preferred method of cable routing taking into account insulation and not being...

Help.. no lights downstairs in my home

Not to mention all these amateur DIY'ers having a go themselves and then asking for free advice from you to fix their mistakes! As an amateur myself I thought i might as well get that in before someone else does! Given my time again I would tell my young self to train as a spark as i...

Help.. no lights downstairs in my home

Same amateur mistake as i made few years back there. I also thought double insulated downlights with no terminal for earth as not needed on the actual light fitting so why not just cut it off...... Didnt consider about cable protection so the earth (CPC) should be externally jointed at each...

Help.. no lights downstairs in my home

Im a DIY'er too so my logical approach might be easier for you to follow. Firstly though just to clarify do you know what youre looking at in the ceiling roses with regards to switched live, permanent live (loop/radial), neutral & earth? You didnt clarify either that youre 100% sure that the 1...

How is this thread 11 pages long lol? I read about the first 5 then gave up. Is it just a place for general banter now or are you all still hoping for a confession that he actually is doing the work himself?:D Or, has he already confessed and I missed it in the 6 pages i didnt read? Damn it...

Spur off a Spur, extra sockets?

Are you certain that the starting point is a spur and not a ring? Its impossible for people to advise from those photos sorry. It could be the case that the start point single was originally a double on the ring and they swapped it to a single socket along with a FSU (also now on the ring) to...

Help.. no lights downstairs in my home

PMSL, yeah, do i go for the posh new one but risk there being a queue of suicidal people or just go for the old faithfull Silver Jubilee bridge!:D It seems like every week someone wants to jump off it, just shows how nice an area it is to live. Must be all the chemicals in the air.

Its a nightmare mate with the new Mersey Crossing being built. Different expressways are opening and closing constantly with all kinds of diversions. Hopefully all done this autumn apparently.

Sunny Runcorn mate, Cheshire sounds so much better though!:D I regularly have sparks in to do various jobs in work so always lend a hand when i can to see what i can learn from them. They are getting free labour and i am learning so good for both parties.

Help.. no lights downstairs in my home

Im only an amateur diy'er with an interest in electrics but I think I must be missing something here so im happy to be corrected by the forum professional's. If this was my house then the first thing i would do would be to trace the live loop/radial to see where or if it fails. Im assuming you...

    FSU In Bathroom Airing Cupboard

Well everyone, thats enough for me and i can stop thinking about it now! ;) Thanks for all the replies so far. I cant help wonder though why they drilled through the wall into the kitchen and spurred off the ring with an FSU when there was a live FSU right next to the boiler!

    FSU In Bathroom Airing Cupboard

This whole thing only came about because a plumbing/heating site i was on said if your combi is in the bathroom then the controls and FSU have to be outside the bathroom. I think that might have been relating to actually mounted on the bathroom wall though rather than in an airing cupboard...

    FSU In Bathroom Airing Cupboard

Cheers Wilko, it does indeed have a proper door and RCD protection. I forgot to mention though that the cupboard is also opposite a shower cubicle, 1500mm away.

So would you say its fine then Andy? The guy that fitted the new consumer never flagged it up and i have only utilised an existing circuit, not installed a new one.
