    Which tool bag...

I have the Pro Soft Side Tool Organizer - Tools - IRWIN TOOLS which stores my everyday stuff perfectly. Outer flapped pockets for tape/connectors etc and loops for screwdrivers and pouches for pliers/cutters etc inside. It's quite small but swallows an amazing amount of kit and keeps it well...

    can anybody recommend....

I'll second HandySparks recommendations. I have a Makita torch that uses my drill batteries and is great as it stands up and the head tilts to point at what you need illuminating. I also have a LED Lenser P4 which is a great LED torch, see comparisons on YouTube as LED Lenser usually have a...

    van

Back to the subject of vans, it's horses for courses. I have a Merc Dualiner LWB (5 seats plus a van bit at the back) because it serves as family car and sparky (domestic installer) van. Also has an extra 12v socket for my Hoegaarden chiller. If you're carrying a lot of kit you need a big van...

Armeg Wood Beaver or Irwin Blue Groove??

I use the Armeg Stubby Wood Beaver Set 3Pcs bought from Screwfix. Cuts well with little effort and combined with my Bosch 10.8v drill it fits lovely between joists. I use them sparingly and go for a spade type if I'm not sure about nails/screws. The Irwin Blue Grooves are fine, but their 3...

Which Van is best for an electrical contractor?

I sorted the car/van issue by getting a used Vito Dualiner. 5 seats plus a closed-in van section at the back. It's well specced and mine is the CDI 115 (150bhp and 330Nm). As for a 'fanny magnet', no van will cut it for most of the ladies, but a VW T4/T5 suitably modded will work for the hippy...

    Printed/Embroided Work Shirts

Just to update you all on the APC workwear. No issues with any of it at all. It all washes up well, keeps its shape and colour, and wears well too. Best part is the softshell jacket which is just as good as the £60 ones in outdoor shops. The service was spot on as well, so I'll definitely use...

    modern wood drill bits???

I agree with Gravid and think the Armeg Stubby Wood Beavers are great. My dinky Bosch 10.8v drill/driver can get between joists with one and drive it through no problem.

    Greatest Cars in the world

From the first time I saw one I've dreamt of driving a Lancia Stratos, preferably in full rally spec. Would probably need a sensible everyday car to go with it, like the Brabus G-Wagen.

    Fluke t5-1000 or t140

I'm a big fan of the T5-1000 and am never without it.

Bosch PMF 180 E Multifunctional Allrounder

I got the PMF 180 E from Homebase with a £20 discount. Got some extra blades from B&Q when they did a 3 for 2 on Bosch accessories. Always carry it and it's got me out of many a tight spot, paying for itself already.

    Plasterboard fixings for light fittings....

I'm very impressed with Fischer Universal plugs. Fischer UX6 Universal Wall Plug Box of 100 : Tooled-Up.com They are truly universal and only once in blue moon will I need anything stronger.

    Buying tools online

For the cheap basic stuff I love Toolstation Toolstation because you can see if it's in stock and postage is usually free. For power tools I was impressed by Anglia Tools Power Tools UK - DIY Hand & Power Tools Online at Anglia Tool Centre and got Bosch Pro stuff at the best prices and great...

Advice on a quality torch please.

I heartily recommend LED Lenser torches. Saw comparison tests on YouTube with Maglite and others and LED Lenser wins every time. I've had Maglites in the past but not good enough for what they cost, and cheap torches are a false economy for me as I drop them and break or drown them. My LED...

    Printed/Embroided Work Shirts

I've placed my order with APC Workwear but upgraded the 'work pack' coat to a softshell jacket for an extra £2, so £81.95 plus VAT for 5 polos, 2 sweats, 1 softshell jacket all embroidered, plus 2 trousers. The polos and sweats aren't heavy weight but my plumber bro-in-law uses their stuff and...

    Who Are You Registered With?

Not registered yet. Met Tony Cable of NICEIC who said I could get the VAT off by going through him, so £370 inc VAT instead of £370 plus VAT. Trouble is he said someone would call me back, but they haven't got round to it yet. Not sure they value my (or anyone's) business very much. Thinking...

    Hi foks

I'm about to set up as a Domestic Installer, just got my 2382 and now looking to register with NICEIC. Looking forward to working for myself and not having anyone (except the client) to report to. I've watched this forum for a while, got some great tips, and had a chuckle over some of the tales...
