Hi All,
Just checking something when asked to install a bathroom fan supplied from existing lighting circuit.
- Install a triple pole switch to isolate. (can this be in the loft space for example)??
- As I am modifing the cct do I assume I will need to RCD / RCBO it. or not??
Thanks in...
Hi,
Is it the same inverter that fails??
What manufacturer is it i.e Siemens, Mitsubishi.
Most modern types of inverters trip (with a fault code) if there is a problem with either supply or load.
What about the protective device for the inverter does this trip? what is it
A couple of years...
Hi,
I have had a similar situation a few years ago ( not in a new installation though)
I was called to an old cottage where the plasters were reskimming a wall and were moaning about getting a shock. (they are always moaning about something)
Further investigation proved that there was no...

I use a fluke T5 for general stuff, should cover you for a majority of domestic. Not sure about resolution if you trying to measure MA.
Also have a dedicated 200A AC/DC clamp meter which I bought from RS a couple of years ago

Hi,
Depends on the type of timer you fit.
For example if you had a switch/PIR the timer would start once the switch was opened. (timer would need a permenant supply).
You can buy timers that fit inside CU enclosures or you could build a small panel to cover all you lighting.
Have a look at...
What I would do is go back to the client explain the benefits or drawbacks of each option.
Sounds like you may need a couple of PIRS (for coverage) and off timer per bay
Ultimately its up to the client just make sure they understand what is being installed.

Got a call from a mate who's a plumber he has a job to 'just change a U/S shower with another same sized unit' (8.5kw)
CU is old wylex with rewirables, No RCD's in sight
I have told him I won't do it until I have checked the following
Main bonding is adequate and in place
Check and verify...
Sounds like something is getting hot then maybe the insulation is breaking down. Is there a way you could isolate a couple of fittings and leave the remainder on and see if it still trips.
If not split the circuit out and test each fitting comparing the results of each.

Safety first guys, I will always pull the fuse to work safely.
I let the customer know what I am doing and leave them with the suppliers metering department contact details so they can arrange for it to be resealed (if they choose to) normally approx £40 - £50 for the privelege. (Thats what...
In what way is it faulty?? blowing fuses/MCB or just not working.
1.I would carry out insulation test
2.Check continuity of winding (handy if you have a good one to compare results against)
Hope this Helps
Thanks, Yes it is a TT. And the Ze was 380 ohms before i sank the new rod. (No idea where the original was).
I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to reply ;)
How do you record the R1 + R2 for a circuit with seperate feeds?
For example in my propert the downstairs lights have 3 live wires coming out of a 6a MCB.
cable 1 does the bathroom and playroom lights
cable 2 does the hall light
cable 3 does the remaining downstairs rooms
Do i record the...
I am changing my own CU. For my Elecsa assesment. Just checking the paperwork side.
Do I complete a PIR or EIC?
I'm sure its a PIR and schedule of test result etc...etc...
Thanks in advance!!!!:)
Hi, I am 3 weeks away from my Elecsa assesment and will be replacing my ageing wylex CU with a new dual RCD MK unit.
The meter tails are 16mm and will be too short for the new unit. I want to replace them with 25mm. (Main cut out is BS88 100a)
Do I call the supplier and get them to connect...
