Adding a 2 way unit to a garage

I'm surprised at this thread for a couple of reasons. My first surprise is that it took so long for someone to suggest that the submain needs to be separated from the main RCD but the biggest surprise was the amount of vitriol in some of the members replies. I thought this was a help forum? If...

    Trunking vs tray

Another great tool for metalworking where hot work needs to be avoided: Metal Cutting Circular Saw. I have an 18v Makita job, other brands available, cuts unistrut, tray, conduit, trunking, SWA with very little burr. You can also pop a wood blade on it for a bit of timber work if needs be...

    Re-wire or upgrade earth bonding?

If the wiring is as you have described, you are probably looking at a complete rewire and firing your project manager. I shan't bore you with the details, but wiring is all about avoiding heat. There are different installation methods for cables, all with their own correction factors for heat...

    Maintenance Free JBs

Helacon are great and beat the Wago variety due to the inspection test point. Used with an enclosure that requires a tool, you're all up to date with the regs. Most wiring faults I come across trace back to a screw/twist/crimp joint that has worked loose over time, even on sockets, switches and...

TNS Supply in Garage then T&E to House!

Thanks Engineer54. I think the separate 16mm conductor sounds better than using the armour for bonding AND sub-mains CPC but it'll have to run underground so 3 core SWA it is. It's a weird set-up, almost like the builder wasn't sure where he was putting the house!

    Thanks Jonny66, very helpful.

TNS Supply in Garage then T&E to House!

This is the current set-up. There's a TNS incoming to a detached garage, this is split from an old MEM fused isolator (the tails go straight in) and has a send to the CU via some 10mm T&E going under ground and up into the house. There's another feed from the fused isolator to another, smaller...
