    Smart Ceiling Light for Bathroom

The line between novelty and irritation with most of these things is a slim one.

    Change of career at 50.

Desk jobs are for youngsters. If you get past 50 sitting down all day and spending 9 hours on a computer you are probably heading for the scrapheap fast. We aren't built for that.

clever ways of ring final test without removing spur fronts??

You might be able to solder a fine flexible insulated wire ( say a few cm chopped from a headphone cable) onto the end of a fuse, and use that as a probe to make an adequate contact with the fuse holder which might now be able to almost close. ( The wire will jamb). It will depend on the...

    EU banning Halogen bulbs!

Thanks. Sounds like it may have more than a little in common with this then How we can turn the cold of outer space into a renewable resource - https://www.ted.com/talks/aaswath_raman_how_we_can_turn_the_cold_of_outer_space_into_a_renewable_resource

    EU banning Halogen bulbs!

Intriguing. How's that then? A filament at ~ 4000K is going to radiate on many wavelengths, the majority of power being in infra-red. So I'm speculating here someone is trying to invented a high temperature phosphor able to re-emit long wavelengths in visible? .. Link??..

Follow up on DNO complaint and earth terminal responsibilities

Interesting discourse. In my area SSEPD I've always found DNO to be very responsive and easy to deal with. Every time I contact them about a suppliers earth issue (which I have to do quite often), they get round and fix it pronto, and never charge.

Black PVC/conduit back boxes. - Source?

I didn't dis it! In all seriousness, would work fine on metalclad boxes. - Might be a little too artisan for the Customer :)

Black PVC/conduit back boxes. - Source?

Thanks @Matthewd29 . Call me dim but my searching found nothing at Screwfix. Meanwhile @rsgaz has come up trumps. Thanks, I'll give CMW a call. Rgds.

Use of FP200. Will it get messed up by too much flexing?

More a matter of sound connections and good practice. No "have to" about it though.

Black PVC/conduit back boxes. - Source?

I need black surface back boxes. PVC or ABS conduit boxes would be fine, as would metalclad, but not the crunchy ones. - There will be some conduits involved. I can find only Wickes (who sell a single outlet black box only, no doubles), same at CPC. Occasional Ebay sellers do have some with...

Use of FP200. Will it get messed up by too much flexing?

No real need AFAICT, provided it's "heavy duty" 521.9.1 (which leaves I think according to this definition only H07RN-F) but it needs lots of clips. Saying that, in a totally wonky timber barn space where the customer will be frowning at visible bits of cable, being able to bend it easily...

Thanks for the links. and suggestions. I'll check those out before I quote (bearing in mind NIC "non standard" comments.)

Use of FP200. Will it get messed up by too much flexing?

It'll be more like "weaving" I recon from the look of this place.

Use of FP200. Will it get messed up by too much flexing?

I have electrics to add in a listed barn. It's a unlined shell of a building, grubby cobwebby beams and timbers with external claddding. Customer must have all black wiring so as to hide it as much as possible. Everything will be clipped with metal accessories. Trunking/conduits are too big and...

Looking for 6 inch dia core drill plus ducting

It can get expensive. If it helps any, my "ultra budget" (less than £100 for the drill and the bit!) experiment, gave me two clean 162mm holes in a cavity wall a few months ago. I can't claim it was fast. A surprisingly good quality diamond core from "UK Drills" (Ebay) and a cheap big Titan SDS...

Checkatrade, Mybuilder, Myhammer ratedpeople etc etc.. Your views?

A fit of irritation, just getting it off my chest. It was a CU install as well. Not only that, the Smart Meter installers then came along and offered the householder an earth connection more or less as an "optional extra". Householder thought it was earthed (well there was a new CU and...

Checkatrade, Mybuilder, Myhammer ratedpeople etc etc.. Your views?

Sorry, genuinely hoping not to offend. (So I apologise in advance to the more proficient members of said organization). It just seems an odd coincidence that each time I take a note of something fairly serious where work was recently done (Not small stuff or compromises), they have all been...

Checkatrade, Mybuilder, Myhammer ratedpeople etc etc.. Your views?

I have a list of these now..not that it helps me much. Come on NICEIC! And, you guessed it.. Checkatrade. This one was incorporated in 2012, so five years trading to learn to get it right. The householder said "The electrician was confused about the earthing rod". Property "earthed" through...
