    'Convection heating system'

Hi all, a landlord has phoned and asked the following question; "is it OK to have a heating system that consists of wall mounted convection heaters manually plugged into sockets on the Ring Main?" My thought was you wouldn't want it in your house, but electrically it's fine. As long as the...

    downlight guards

My point was, that as LED lamp produce very little heat is there still a need to fit the guards, given that they're a tenner each. Regarding the plant pot solution it would look a little unprofessional to put plant pots in a customers attic:)

    kitchen lighting

Hi all. I've got a customer with a large kitchen diner and they used to have a couple of strip lights in there. When they redecorated last year they changed to a more modern looking 4-spot (2 of them in each area). They've found that these don't give off enough light and are looking for modern...

    LED Driver

I'm pretty sure they will have a greater minimum load than 5-10W. I think this is why designated LED divers are around £20, as they work down at that level

    LED Driver

Sorry, just twigged. the Transformers used for LV spots are 12VAC not 12VDC as the LED driver are.

    LED Driver

I have recently bought a reel of SMD LED strip lighting. I know it's suggested that you use an LED driver to power these but they seem very expensive. I was wandering if I could use a standard electronic transformer used for powering LV spotlights, as long as I meet the minimum load? I struggle...

    Outside cable

Have i stumbled on a game of 'avoid the question'? only joking..... i realise the price difference isn't much but it's just a lot more practical if i could use T+E as i always have an abundance of i t on the van whereas SWA would have to be cut to length with waste.

    Outside cable

    Outside cable

Hi all, just wandering if there's any problem with running T+E in PVC conduit that's buried underground out to a shed. Circuit will come off it's own breaker on a 17th Ed. RCD protected consumer unit. thanks Neil

    4mm Radial vs 2.5mm Ring

Hi all, when undertaking a full rewire I have always installed a 2.5mm Ring Main for the sockets. I am considering switching to a 4mm Radial for easier testing (plus I don't like the idea of it being possible to unknowingly break a ring main and not know about it causing possible overloading)...

    Protection by RCD

Hi all, Just a quick query on RCD protection. Looking at 3.6.1 of the OSG it states that RCD protection is required for; ii)socket outlets in domestic installations. - SO ALL SOCKETS SHOULD HAVE RCD PROTECTION? (unless specifically labeled as fridge, freezer ect...) iii)for circuits of...

    secondary consumer unit and bonding

hi all I have been asked to change a consumer unit in a house. Most of the house is covered by a new consumer unit (17th ed.) and all the bonding to gas and water is covered by this. The consumer unit i am changing covers the electrics in an old extension that consists of 2 bedrooms and a...
