The lamp and fixture contacts all look clean with no obvious signs of arcing, I tried tapping on the front of the fixture and surrounding ceiling but that didn't provoke them into flickering on demand. The only way I can get the lamps to do it is by turning them off and on again but once it...
Thankyou both for the responses.
The converted loft is now a bedroom so I guess that would count as a dwelling? The walk in cupboard off to the side of the loft (above the bathroom) is used for permanent storage so there are lots of items such as camping gear in the space above the bathroom...
Hi everyone,
My parents have some 240v GU10 down lights installed in the bathroom which all independently suffer from intermittent flickering. They're all LED's but the same behavior can be observed when swapped out with halogens which leads me to believe there is probably a loose connection...
Thanks, I'll go ahead and order a new one then. Luckily a replacement element is still cheaply available.
I left it running a bit longer to heat up more and saw less than 5kohm when I put the meter on it, more than enough to trip the RCD.
Just for giggles I placed an LED with a small 9v...
Thanks for the replies and advice everyone.
Well I don't have a megger so this is what I've done.
I removed everything else from the bread maker (yes PEG, it is my mothers lol) and then using a 48v DC power supply let it slowly heat up. After a minute I felt the heat rising so I disconnected...
Hi,
Can a heating elements resistance to earth depend on its temperature? As I have one here that trips the RCD but when checking the resistance cold there is around 1.5M ohm-7M ohm to earth which shouldn't trip a 30mA RCD. Putting pressure on the element doesn't change it and there aren't...
Well I tried telling them about the recommendation's on this thread and it looks like they are going to remain ignorant, "There is nothing wrong with it" and "it is working fine now so there is no need to have it looked at".
People with this sort of attitude to things as potentially...
Thanks for the advice, I will tell them about this thread and tell them you guys recommended someone look at it.
Besides I have found something that should pursued them even more on the front of the fusebox/rcd panel.
Hard to see but it reads:
"Date of last inspection: April 80"...
Thanks for the reply's, here are some images.
I think the gap is bigger than 15ft, but as you can see from the first two images the cable is just ran across the gap.
the last two images are of the part where it connects to the house and the last one is it connecting to the garage and you can...
Hello I am new here.
This is regarding my parents house electrical wiring that leads out to the garage.
Here is a small amount of background information, I am 17 years old and over the last year or so I have started taking interest in electronics in general and have learned quite a bit about...
