2391 Practical re sit, Need a little bit of help...

Have a think about WHY you would do a PFC at the sub board and what you would use that result for (whether measured or calculated). It is not good enough to just record a result because the form has a box that needs to be filled in. There is a reason for this particular test.

Fitting a Van Vault in a Peugeot Expert

Just recently acquired a 2005 Peugeot Expert and am considering security. Seems sensible to fit something like a Van Vault and am considering the Van Vault 2. Has anyone got any experience/anecdotes about fitting one of these in the 'Expert' (or Scudo or Dispatch)?

    Tell us about your faults!

I'll put my hands up for that one, Shunter, well spotted. It was my original post and I never clocked about the missing neutral. I do know that the only 3ph equipment they plug in (a steam cleaner) does not need a neutral, but that is no excuse. It also means that the steam cleaner has the wrong...

    Routing of cables?

The mcb provides fault protection the rcd provides additional protection. Why do you feel you need to further protect the cable?

    Routing of cables?

Cables behind skirting is bad practice. Skirting is one part of the fabric that people would not think twice about banging nails through or drilling holes in. But I would be more interested to hear whether you have rcd protection on this circuit. If not then you really ought to consider doing...

    Olives for MICC glands

Is it possible to buy just the olives used in MICC glands? Had to cut back some pyro this week to remake the termination, was unable to salvage/reuse the olive, and ended up having to buy a whole new gland. I know that glands are not terribly expensive, but all I needed was a new olive (and pot).

EICR in Church - Low IR in MICC heater circuits

C2 and further investigation required is what I had in fact given on my report for this particular issue. There were other less serious issues as well. Have just come away from meeting with client and have got a week's work doing further investigation and remedials, with the potential for...

EICR in Church - Low IR in MICC heater circuits

I made sure the DP spurs for all heaters were off before measuring. Last set of test results from 5 years ago had low readings as well, but back then 0.5Mohms was acceptable. The acceptable limit is now higher, and there would also appear to be further deterioration in the condition of the...

EICR in Church - Low IR in MICC heater circuits

Recently done a EICR in a church and about half of the heater circuits (tubular heaters fed by MICC routed under the floor) had low IR, typically 0.18 to 0.61 Mohms. There is a lot of damp in the floors, and I have to explain to the customer why the circuits are failing the tests so that they...

June 2391 exam results how do you all do?

Got the call from my tutor this morning to tell me that I passed. Big thank you to him, Stuart Turner, my tutor at Northampton College, for guiding me through the regs and now the 2391.

    Socket near sink

If this was a EICR, I would be giving it a C2. House has kids running around, there is no RCD protection, and if anyone were to turn that tap on full pelt then water is highly likely to splash directly onto the plug and socket.

    Socket near sink

Came across this whilst doing PAT in a women's refuge, and not a single RCD in the house. Whoever installed the worktop and sink never gave a thought to splashes from the sink. The socket front has apparently been changed once due to it smoking (I wonder why?), But they didn't think to change...

    Answer this question

????? Current is not the same in parallel. Volt drop is the same, and current varies according to the resistances. If all resistances in parallel are the same, then the current is split evenly in each branch.

    Heating on when timer off?

Yes, is most likely the timer. If you can get the same make/model then it can most likely be fitted without having to touch any wiring - they usually plug in to a backplate, and the wiring is terminated to the backplate. Just turn off the mcb before you look at replacing the timer.
