I was asleep and missed it all! Apparently it was even spectacular down here near Rugby!

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

That's a lovely panel. We did some bio digester plant a couple of years ago the panels were all made in Germany and very tidy indeed! Only trouble was that the instructions to install them were in German and none of us did!!😀 Also isn't there a thread on here for jobs done properly? Sy

Have you ever / would you ever; Work for an Electrical Supplier / Electrical Wholesaler

I worked for the one with three letters on its branding. This was for about a year after finishing my apprenticeship, completely by accident I might add! Just fancied something different, job came up in there and I thought why not. Gave me a good Insite into the game and manufacturing side of...

    Isolation of TN supplies.

I had a situation not so long ago with a 4 pole main isolator where it was switched off for some equipment to be changed. When it was switched back on the neutral did not close resulting in the voltage on the single phase control side going crazy as the voltage raised and cooking some of the...

    £0 Pre-pay meter and EICR

I see, so not overly helpful! I would give the supplier an hour max of my time. If that doesn't work then kick it back to the landlord unless he is willing to pay for my time to sort it out, or resort to alternative methods!

    £0 Pre-pay meter and EICR

Are they from the same supply? If so I'd be tempted to use the link out method of testing Zs as you would for bypassing an RCD.

    £0 Pre-pay meter and EICR

I had this scenario a while back with an eon meter 0 credit. After being passed around between departments I gave up and did all the dead testing. Limitations listed and sent it with a note that when power was on I could schedule a return visit. About a week later I went back to do the live...

    Medical Question

I have also got one from about 12 years ago, still going strong, both batteries still ok but starting to feel the strain and the sds chuck is well worn but will still hold bits. They are an excellent drill!

    Medical Question

I suffer from the same issue! Not just electrical kit either but I do woodwork metalwork and Welding too which doesn't help. I also have a fair amount of mates that are always buying kit, if I go to see them they will always say 'got this the other day' then let me use whatever it is. This...

CK T3678 Heavy Duty Ratchet Cable Cutters - how good?

I have a pair of the CK ones, they seem good, plenty of leverage! I use them on 25mm - 35mm 4-5core swa quite a lot even though it says copper alu only and they are still sharp! probably had them about 9 months now and still going strong. I would have thought 120mm conductor they would breeze...

    Non type-tested parts

Can you not still get the RCD pods that fit onto those mcb's? They were available but about £50 ish, better than the kempston prices for a new rcbo! Edit. Yup here...

    Toolbox for DCD470

Thats a beast of a drill! What are you drilling through with that? I have the 18v dewalt angle drill and that will go through some pretty hefty stuff! Sorry can't help with storage much, buy it a armour draw all of its own.

    Snakes and ladders.

I've had a few incidents with steps and ladders over the years, on one occasion I was on a set of tripple 4m ladders onto a flat cladding sheet putting up 250w sodium lights, bracket was up and securely fixed, as I reached the bracket light fitting in one hand I felt the dreaded sideways...

Building a false floor for the new van.

I did mine 5 years ago, it doesn't half make things easier and save time hunting for stuff!

    Black Bulb/ Fuse Box

If it was plastic then that is most probably the cause of the black dribbles down the lamp! As UNG says that lampshade looks like it needs an adapter ring. My guess would be someone in the past broke the lamp holder skirt changing the lamp (due to it already being brittle from heat) and the...

    Black Bulb/ Fuse Box

Another quick observation is the lid for the fuses is not going to fit back on with the MCB's installed in the consumer unit. I was lead to believe that this was required as the arc from the 3036 fuse blowing will be ejected from the top and bottom of the fuse holder.

    Drilling holes in Fusebox knockouts?

I have done this using a galv conduit box lid on the underside of the hole. Knock out the original 32mm hole then fix the box lid in position with 2 m4 bolts and drill the size you require. In some cases where I needed a bit more strength I have drilled an extra 2 fixing holes in the box lid...

Effective methods to generate work going from employed to start up

You don't need to be part of a scam to issue EICR's. Yet! Only need to be in a scam to issue compliance certs through them for some EIC domestic works like consumer unit change, work in a bathroom/kitchen or garden, shed ect.

Effective methods to generate work going from employed to start up

I would say social media is a good start, it really depends on what area you want to get into. I have been very lucky over the years and have only advertised twice in over 20 years. This is mainly due to the company I was employed by going under. I inherited a few of their old customers and my...
