Yes, solar on or off makes no difference to the meter still reading when the power is off. The solar is on its own circuit in the consumer unit and can be disconnected via its own circuit breaker in the consumer unit or the main solar isolator switch.
But I did notice that the meter display...
That's an interesting document.
It says "This will be done by an independent examiner, in the presence of an operative from your supplier."
SSE are now going to send someone out in 2 weeks time but I got the impression that it's only an SSE employee and not an independent examiner. Does this...
The meter says power consumption is 15 units per day when it should be 2 or 3 units per day.
The meter says power consumption is still 15 units per day even when the main circuit breaker is off.
The display on the meter is blank half of the time.
No outbuildings.
I did consider the neighbours might have inadvertently tapped into my supply when they built an extension next door! But that was ruled out when I switched off the power and the meter kept running as that would have switched the neighbours off too.
The whole lot, meter consumer...
I followed your advice with the lighter.
I then phoned the fire brigade to say my kitchen was on fire but they said I have to watch it for 60 minutes to make sure it really was a fire before they'd come out and investigate because, apparently, not being on fire can persist for upto 30 minutes...
Yes, I've contacted SSE. They are my supplier and the meter has their name on it.
They told me to turn the power off for an hour. I'm looking for information to back up their statement that the meter can continue to record power being used for up to 30 minutes after the power is turned off.
I have a couple of questions about electricity meters, as supplied by SSE.
Mine has a fault.
The display is often blank and the meter continues to record power being used even when turned off at the main circuit breaker on the consumer unit.
I videoed it. That to me is 100% proof the meter is...
Where can I find a list of dodgy meters?
The meters I have must be installed properly as they worked for 2 years and they haven't been altered.
I thought the quick fix would be to get SSE to replace my meter with a Smart Meter as they'd offered me one last year.
It turns out I'm not eligible...
Gnarly,
thanks for the reply.
I know the solar is providing more than I'm using because the inverter tells me and the export meter is counting it and the values they show are way beyond any power consumption I have, other than when I have the oven or kettle on.
I can see how being right on...
Dave,
the FIT meter is still working as it always did.
Richard,
the flashing of the red LED is different.
It still briefly flashes 1000 times for every kWh I use.
But when I'm not using any power from the grid, as the solar panels are supplying it all, then the LED turns on and off every few...
Not sure if this is related to solar panels but..
I have an Ampy 5258k meter next to the consumer unit.
Before I had solar panels installed the LED on the meter would very briefly flash while using power.
After I had solar panels installed a few years ago, when there was no solar power it...
I've done some tests with mine and I'm sure it's just the inverter displaying the wrong values.
It's been cloudless today so when the output was leveling out at its peak in mid afternoon I took 3 measurements.
1 Just string 1.
2 Just string 2.
3 both strings.
When I measured output at the...
I've been waiting for some suitable weather to do some tests.
I need some full on sun in mid-afternoon to get the output up to 4kW again but we haven't had that sort of weather since I first started this thread in September.
I'll then compare what the inverter says to what the generation meter...
The installer couldn't account for it and says he'll ask the manufacturer.
I was wrong about the connections from the strings to the inverter, they are plugs, but need a couple of screwdrivers to release them. I swapped the strings over and the inverter readings don't swap so it's an inverter...
Whinmoor,
no scaffolding left, but I did think that was the problem the first day before they took it down.
No sign of bird droppings, but would that cause a 0.5A drop at all light levels? Surely it would cause more loss at higher output? That's what I don't understand.
There are 16 panels in 2...
FB,
up to 11am there is shading as the panels are on the other side of the roof.
Around 10:30 the array starts to move out of the shade but it takes until 11:00 for a shadow from the chimey to completey move off. The whole array is then in sunlight and stays that way until 7pm. From 11am...
Danesol,
I assumed the 2 strings would be plugged in to the inverter but they appear to go through grommets. I expect, without having looked, that they're wired in to some terminal block inside.
The cables appear through the roof and run continuously, through isolation switches, into the...
