    Interesting point, but I wonder whether in practice firefighters crawl through basements so small they cannot bend their knees, in burning buildings, on the one-in-a-million chance there is someone in OK bad example on my part, maybe a cable clipped to a dado rail (if anyone's ever done that)...

    So, you paid two fines but only one crime is recorded. Who has made off with the other fine? Not sure if this helps with dealing with your insurer, but maybe worth pursuing DVLA and others for a straight answer to find out where your money has gone and discourage this kind of thing in future.

    I can't help thinking the money spent on home reports would be better spent making simple leaflets telling buyers what to look for - a recent EICR being an example. But then of course the money would go to printers and not surveyors, lawyers and estate agents.

    Fair point and I'd probably only take a percentage down myself, at least initially, but everywhere I looked the wiring for these was a mess, with random bits of flex joined here and there and literally stretched between terminals. You'd only have to take one down to see it wasn't right.
