Opened this thread and then realised it was from 2019 and though “who’s made the mistake of replying to such an old thread?”.
Nice to see it wasn’t a mistake and the original poster had come back to post again with an update and a good outcome!
Well done mate
Like Davesparks says sometimes it’s easier to just change something and rid yourself of the potential headache of all the other implications that come with standing your ground.
There’s definitely cases to be made for it being incorrect and it’s not 100% a written rule that it’s OK.
It’s...
not too long ago I was in a situation where my computer was completely wiped and therefore so were the test cert backups and program for NICEIC software.
Was told by them there was nothing they could do and I’d have to start over.
I’ve since had a few customers on the phone who have lost the...
All ok, I would sleeve it but it doesn’t necessarily need to be in my opinion.
Board would require a sticker advising to be aware that old and new colours both used in the installation.
Just out of interest would you not be concerned by a reading as low as 1 or even 2 megohm?
We only really carry out new install so more often than not our readings are always as high as our testers can go which is >999
Whenever I see a reading which is below 100 even I instinctively start to...
The only thing I’ve seen so far is a virtual training, I’m assuming it’s a Zoom meeting style training maybes, through the NICEIC. I think there are 6 units total: fundamentals, design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, domestic.
£175 for the first module which is virtual but I’ve just...

Another reason why ultimately I prefer the gut instinct method.
As above, only use mine on distribution boards.
3.5nm on some terminals seems a lot and I quite often find the screwdriver slipping and starting to round the screw head before the driver clicks to confirm torque.
On the flipside, one board I’ve worked on asks for all connections on the earth...
This sounds intriguing. Was literally wondering the other day why there isn’t a PDF version of the regs where you can search for keywords etc or any word for that matter.
I think they’re probably worried that it’ll be distributed online to thousands of people and affect the sales of the paper...
Anyone ever took part in any of the virtual classroom training sold by the NICEIC?
Interested in learning more about fire alarm systems and emergency lighting so figured they might be a good place to start.
Is a fire alarm qualification similar to an electrical apprenticeships where you’d have...
Also recently started using the Bosch PowerChange arbour and hole saws. Great bit of kit when drilling consecutive holes, quick release saves a lot of time.
Rhino ladder clamps for van roof rack! There was nothing worse than needing your ladders off the top of the van in the pouring rain or when it’s snowing and then having to spin those old rusty ladder clamps that get stuck every half turn (hopefully everyone knows the type I mean!)
….and then...
